Chapter 17: Arduous sacrifition

Nika's POV

"Holy shit." I blurted out with my eyes wide open in shock. I saw my sister sitting down with her hand putting pressure on a chilling bite on her right arm. Her boyfriend was beside her trying to clean her wound.

"How many *cough* times do I have to *cough* tell you, you shouldn't *cough* curse." My sister said coughing very harsh. She looked different, she was really pale maybe because of how much blood she lost on the bite, she looked really frail and frightened because of the wound.

"Sis!" I shouted out loud and ran up to her, I sat down and shook my head trying to shake my head to think this isn't real, but it is.

"Hi-i~" She weakly said with a small smile on her face.

Tears fell down my eyes as I saw her face, she looked really frail and sick. I carefully pried her hand of her wound to take a closer look. The bite was severe, she was losing too much blood.

"W-what h-happened to you?" I asked in between my tears. Reagan walked up to me and sat beside me, I felt her rubbing my back to comfort me.

"We were l-losing food so w-w-we decided to go to a mall *cough*, but as we w-were checking some food t-this z-zombie ran up to me *cough* and bit my arm n-now we hopped to the nearest mall w-which was this mall to g-get m-medicine." My sister Karylle, explained. She coughed for another time but this time she coughed blood.

"Sis, ayaw kitang mamatay!" (Sis, I don't want you to die!") I cried out. She just nodded at me sadly with a sad smile on her face.

"I know, b-but I'm happy to see you one last time 'lil sis." She said with tears slowly falling down her cheeks. Her veins were now evident on her neck, her eyes were not the same blue anymore it has turned greyish and it was dull.

"Please Ate! Remember, we still have our dream to work together and have our own family? Do you still remember when I was still struggling to read and you said 'Never give up sis, you'll survive.'? Survive for me please! Remember the days I helped you with your thesis? Please, fight for those memories, fight the virus for me!" I cried. Tears were falling like waterfalls on my cheeks, I felt Reagan crying too beside me but she was staying strong for me.

"I d-do remember t-those times, but I-I can't f-fight it Nika it a-already bit me. All I-I can do k-know is say my last g-goodbyes." She said with a cough in the end. She looked worser than she was before, I can't handle losing my only half. The half that's always been there for me since I was a baby, I can't bear losing my only family. My big sister.

"Audric, I l-love you and y-you will always b-be my-my true l-love," She stuttered. Audric just held her hand and cried hopelessly, I can hear his heart breaking into pieces second by second now. "And I-I want y-you to protect my s-sister, if you don't I-I'll haunt you forever."

"A-and you Nika, s-survive for me *cough* okay? I k-know you'll survive t-this hellhole." She said. I nodded and cried hard beside her, not knowing how to help her.

"Mahal kita Nika, my 'lil sis." (I love you Nika, my 'lil sis.) She said softly as she breathed her last breath, the whole pharmacy went quiet it was filled with cries and tears.
