Twenty One || Humanity's Hope

"FIRE!"

I turn my head around to find out where the shout came from. Before I could see anything, dust flew into my eyes. Rocks scraped my skin and I coughed out the dirt. I rub my eyes and find that the female titan was trapped. She had been tied with arrows that had metal ropes tied onto them.

"Everyone, ride your horse for a little bit longer. Switch to your 3DM gear. I will be breaking away for a moment. During that time, I am putting Eld in charge." The corporal says. "Take your horses as well as mine and put them somewhere the female titan can not find them."

The captain stands on his horses back and uses his 3DM gear to launch himself onto a branch of a tree. "What do you think now, Eren?" A soldier in front of me yells.

"This here is a lesson to never underestimate us scouts." Oluo scolds. "Never do that again, got it?"

"I got it!" Eren responds. Eren looks back at the tied up titan and mutters to himself.

"Hey, kid! Snap out of it!" Oluo says, startling him.

"Eren, think about whatever later. Right now, focus on riding down here and stand by!"

"R-Right!" Eren shouts. Oh Eren, you're head is everywhere except for where it needs to be. Behind me, I hear more arrows being fired into the titan. I ignore them and continue riding forward with my team.

"Our horses will be here!" Eld commands. I hop off of the back of my horse and tie him/her to a tree.

"So was the plan for us to lure the titan in this forest and capture it?" Eren asks. "I mean, I can see why he wouldn't tell the troupes. But why wouldn't he tell you guys? Weren't you guys here for so long?"

"Shut it!" Oluo yells at the boy.

"Are you saying that Captain Levi and Commander Erwin don't trust us?" Petra asks the boy, swinging her sword in the air.

"But wouldn't that mean-"

"Petra, rip this boy to shreds!" Oluo snaps.

"Eren's right." Eld interrupts. "There must be a reason why the commander and captain don't trust us. And there's only one reason why he wouldn't trust his soldiers. It basically means that there is someone here that can turn into a titan or is helping them spy, and they are in the Survey Corps."

"Is that possible?" Gunther asks.

"The commander is certain of it. The only ones who were probably told about his plan were those who have stayed alive for the past five years."

"Yes, that must be." Oluo agrees. "Do you understand, Eren?"

"I understand." Petra says. "Five years ago when the wall first fell, a spy could have infiltrated our ranks."

"That spy could have killed Sawney and Bean." Eld says. Sawney and Bean?

"What's Sawney and Bean?" I whisper to Eren.

"They were titans that Hanji had kept for experiments. They died a while back. We suspected that someone had killed them." Eren says in a low voice back to me.

While Eren was answering back to me, Oluo had gone off pretending to be Levi again.

"Eren, I think soon you will understand why Erwin Smith is entrusted with humanity's hope."

"Just look at how much the captain trusts him!" Petra adds. I personally know why Erwin is entrusted and it's because he sacrifices everything just so that we have even just an ounce of hope.

Suddenly, the Earth underneath me starts to tremble. Wind frantically blows at my cape and violent screams made my ears hurt. I shut my eyes and brought my hands up to my ears. It didn't do much to the horrible noise, but I kept them there until I heard the screech no more. I take a deep breath and open my eyes. I lower my hands and look around me.

"What are they doing back there?" I mumble to myself. I sigh and enjoy the peace after the horrible scream. Of course, my peace was disturbed. The ground beneath me once again started to thud as I heard feet smack against the ground.

"TITANS!" Eren shouts. I look to where his finger was pointing and found a 15 meter titan running through the forest. The titan, however, was totally ignoring us and running straight back to where the female titan was tied up.

"Go! After the titans!" Gunther screeched. I hooked my 3DM gear onto a branch and hoisted myself into the air. I use the gas in my tank to launch myself forward.

"BEGIN COMBAT!" A soldier yells.
