Here you are, a well balanced serving of fluff and sexual tension with a side of crack and angst.

________

You pace your room, trying to think of the proper payment you want. "Kiss me. Oh yeah, that totally won't get me fired. Delicate dance Y/N. Come on be smart about this!"

There are so many things you want to ask of the hero. He's been a part of your life for so long it almost feels as though you're closer to him than you actually are. The reality is, he's far from your reach –emotionally– that heart is so well fortified, the progress you've made in such a short time frame feels unreal. Yet, you have so much more to go.

Not to mention-

"The list." The drawer of your desk is slid open as you review your mission.

Rules

Tell no one

Train harder

Heal better

Fly faster

Get closer

You've been working your ass off, trying to follow your own rules. Though you're doing well, it's not sufficient. Honestly, 10 months isn't enough time, and you know it. How can it possibly be enough? You're more likely to burn out before time's up.

That hardly matters.

All you care about is turning the dynamic between you and the hero into something useful. You'd protect Hawks in a heartbeat, and him being a hero means he'll always do the same– even if he doesn't have feelings for you,he'd still keep you safe. He's a decent human being. Of course he would. If all goes according to plan, you'll be heroes together. A dream team with boundless trust in one another's capabilities. Inseparable.

Your thoughts pull a harsh sigh from between your lips.

It's impossible, you can't do this. Telling no one is a stupid idea, but getting pushed away is worse. Hawks won't believe you, not right now. It's too early to say anything. For all you know, all this work is for nothing and your trauma is just playing tricks on you. Driving you into insanity.

Even so, you won't give up. These feelings you have serve as evidence for it. Putting your life in danger for him was hands down a stupid idea when he had everything under control. That doesn't change the fact you'd do it again without hesitation. If you notice he can't get the upper hand, you learned your lesson.

The dreams won't stop– so there's no point in quitting. Crossing the finish line at the end of this God forsaken race is crucial to making them finally stop.

Pushing through, even when you feel as though the world is crumbling around you– this is what makes a hero.

Your thoughts shift back to the payment...

There has to be something you can ask of Hawks that will pull him closer to you. Manipulate the emotions you can access to deliver the results you need. It can't be too forward and it shouldn't push him away either. The word 'manipulate' sounds so harsh, but there's really no other word to accurately describe your intentions.

The last thing you need is a mess on your hands. Or worse– complete loss of progress, never to see the hero ever again, watching him pull away...

Permanently.

Even if he does, you'll stop at nothing to find that damn building and rescue him.

You need to make sure you don't have to work around his walls and instead break them down. Meticulously. So much so Hawks' defenses won't even be able to detect your intrusion.
