You've been working as an intern at Grey-Sloan for about 6 months now, you finally feel like you fit in. Working with Arizona is a blast! You've already learnt so much and even scrubbed in on a few surgeries.

You decided to jog to work today to try and burn off your excess energy! Even though you're on the go 24/7 and are studying as much as you can in your free time, you find yourself energised and ready for whatever life has to throw at you! You go to the locker room and take a shower and get ready for you shift.

You're walking down the corridor and bump into Maggie.

"Hi Grace! You're in extra early this morning! I've heard Arizona has got a big case today! Hope it all goes well sweetie! See you later!" Maggie gives you a quick hug and goes to do a consult.

You go to the cafeteria and grab a coffee for you and Arizona and head up to the peds wing. When you get there you find Arizona hunched over her desk looking miserable.

You knock quietly on the open door and walk in. She lights up as you enter her office. You pull the door to.

"Uh, morning Dr Robbins, is everything okay? I brought you a coffee, I've heard you've got a big case today?" You exclaim.

"Aw thanks Grace. Yeah I do actually, I was going to ask if you wanted to help me do a consult on the patients case and scrub in with me for the surgery? It's a pretty tough case, but I think you can handle it" She smiles at you and gratefully accepts the coffee.

"Omg yes! I'd be honoured! Thank you for this opportunity Dr  Robbins!" You can't help but contain your excitement!

"I'll come with you and get his chart, you can do his consult if you like?" She looks at you hopefully.

You both walk down to room 8 and you grab the patients chart. Arizona knocks on the door and enters the room, she gestures for you to do the same. When you enter you see a frail little boy swallowed up by "get well soon" balloons and stuffed animals.

"This is George Matthew's, 6 years old, cancer of the bowel, treatment has worked previously and is no longer effective, stats are stable and he is due for surgery later on this afternoon." You pause and feel a rush of emotions brimming.

"Thank you Dr Grey-Shepherd, have you any questions Mr and Mrs Matthew's?" She gives you a concerned look as you fidget and look at your feet.

"I'm sorry, will you excuse me for a moment Mr and Mrs Matthew's" Your voice is shaking and your legs start to tremble.

You quickly run out of the room and start crying. You run down the hallway and find somewhere to sit quietly. That little boy looked so sick and yet he still had a smile on his face. What could he have possibly done to deserve this horrible illness, to try and win this losing battle? It was too much for you to see such a sick child and with such little success rates for for this type of surgery. Will he make it? You don't know, but you know that you can't watch him die because of a surgery that is supposed to save his life. You want no part in that.

You manage to find a room that isn't lit up, you push the door open to find your Aunt Amelia studying some brain scans under a small light.

"Aunt Amelia, I can't, I can't breathe" You collapse on the chair next to her and burst into tears. You start to hyperventilate.

"Woah kiddo, slow down! I'm guessing you met George? He's kinda famous in this hospital! You know he's beaten cancer twice? Come on Grace, if Arizona didn't think you were ready for this, she wouldn't have put you on this case! We all have faith in you Grace, and Arizona is the best in her field, George is in the best hands! Now get back out there and finish what you started!" She hugs you tight and hands you a tissue.

You go and clean yourself up in the toilet and take some deep breaths. You start walking back to the peds wing and you see Arizona running towards you, looking frustrated but also concerned.

"Grace, what is going on?! You can't scare our patient like that, I know George has a tough case, but I think you're ready for it! You need more of a challenge, so don't let me down! Go and prep him for surgery and I'll meet you in the scrub room." She still looks angry, but her gaze softens and she squeezes your arm.

"Arizona, I'm sorry, it won't happen again, I just panicked. I've never reacted like this before" You stammered.

"Look, these are the tiny humans. These are children. They believe in magic. They play pretend. There is fairy dust in their IV bags. They hope and they cross their fingers and they make wishes. And that's what makes them more resilient than adults. They recover fast, survive worse, they believe. In Peds, we have miracles and magic. In Peds, anything is possible. Have some faith Grace!" Arizona smiles and goes to get prepped for surgery.

You go into George's room to find him sat up and smiling.

You take a deep breath and put on a smile, "Hey buddy, I'm sorry if I scared you earlier, but I did find you this!" You hand him his surgery gown, it's blue with rockets on.

"Wow! Dr Robbins said that they only give these to the super special patients who have been really good! I must have been sooooo good! Thank you, I love it!" He giggles loudly and his whole face lights up.

"We're going to get you prepped for surgery now George, so you'll feel a bit sleepy when you wake up, but hopefully with our magic, you'll be all better!"

"But Dr Grey-Shepherd , I'm scared! I don't think I can fight anymore, I'm too tired!" He confesses and tears start to form in his eyes.

You remember what Arizona said, you think on your feet.

"You're going to have to help us out though George! There's only one astronaut I know that can help us win a battle we've been fighting! Aliens have been stealing all of our candy George! Whilst you're sleeping, I'm going to need you to be really brave and get it all back for us okay? I think we'll win the fight easy if we have you with us all the time George!" You exclaim.

"Yes, I can help you! I want to fight the aliens and get all your candy back! I want some candy too!" He chuckles as you wheel him into the OR.

You go to get scrubbed in as they put George under anaesthesia. There is complete silence between you and Arizona as you are both getting prepped. However, Arizona gives you a reassuring nod as you both head into the OR.

The surgery goes extremely well and all tumour has managed to be removed. You glance over at Arizona in sheer amazement. She's truly incredible! As Arizona is closing, George's monitor starts beeping and his stats are decreasing quickly!

"There's a bleed coming from somewhere, has anyone got a visual on this thing?!" Arizona shouts.

"I see it!" Without thinking you grab a clamp and stop the bleeding immediately. You breathe a sigh of release as Arizona stitches up the bleed and closes.

You finish the surgery and clean yourself up. You collapse in a sigh of release on the floor outside of the OR. You see Arizona coming and you get up off of the floor. Arizona holds out her arms and pulls you in for a hug.

"You earnt your title today Dr Grey-Shepherd, you saved that little boy's life! I'm proud of you!" Arizona praised.

You can feel your heart beating out of your chest! You helped save a little boys life! You go to inform the parents on how his surgery went and to see if George is awake to hear the good news! You are a kick-ass surgeon equivalent of superhero.

You can feel adrenaline coursing through your veins! You are now sure, that is is where you belong. There is nowhere else you would would rather be. You were made for the OR. The bright lights, the skill, the pressure, life or death.

This is your home.
