The girl gasped awake from her deep slumber, slowly opening her eyes to reveal a pair of brown orbs. The Salvatores exchanged a glance between themselves as the girl noticed her surroundings and the man whose arms she was in. Her brown eyes bore into his blue ones as the situation sank on her. Why am I in his arms? How did I get here? Why can't I remember anything? She questioned herself, becoming frantic when she realized that she was in the arms of a man she had never seen.
"Put me down. Put me down, please." She pleaded with him, her breathing ragged.
The raven-haired Salvatore did as she had asked. As the girl got steadied herself on her feet, the younger Salvatore came into her view, his hazel eyes full of concern for a stranger he had never met. The Petrova girl stared at him, noticing his weird hairstyle. Who are they? She asked herself, unsure of what to do. Being locked in a cave for five hundred years had taken a toll on her mind which was blurred with questions, not able to think straight anymore.
She took a step back, her heartbeat racing up as she stared at the two men in front of her. Stefan took a step towards her, his hands in front of him, assuring her that they had no bad intentions. "It's okay, we won't hurt you," He told her.
"Who are you?" She asked as she tried to calm her racing heartbeat.
"I'm Stefan Salvatore. This is my brother, Damon Salvatore." The youngest of the two announced as Damon nodded, looking at the girl silently.
"And you are?" Damon asked softly, trying not to scare the girl more than she already was. She looked hesitant, wondering whether to disclose her identity to them. Damon took a step forward, "We can't help you if you don't tell us," He spoke, smiling at her slightly.
"Rosemarie. I'm Rosemarie Petrova," She introduced herself, forcing her tired brown eyes to remain open.
Stefan gave her a tight-lipped smile. "Hi, Rosemarie, do you remember how you got here?" He asked.
Rosemarie took in his words, going completely still as her blurry memories flooded her mind, not clearly remembering why she was here in the first place. All she knew was that her sister had done something to her. Her eyes teared up, lips parting as the image of her sister flashed before her eyes.
The brothers looked at her with worry, pitying the poor girl. "Rosemarie?" The older Salvatore's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
She broke out of her trance, looking at him. "My sister. I was with my sister and then..I-I can't remember," Her voice came out as frantic. She bit her chapped lips, trying to remember.
Her legs gave out, getting wobbly as he stumbled and Damon quickly caught her, steadying. "Hey, it's okay. You're safe now," He told the girl, holding her shoulders.
She shut her eyes for a second, sighing. She opened them with a smile, directing them towards Damon. "Thank you," It was now that she noticed their clothes; Shirts, jeans, all unfamiliar to her. A sense of uneasiness took over her as her mind contemplated what was going on. "Which year is it?" She asked them suddenly, fearing the worst.
They both hesitated, glancing at each other, unsure of how to break the news to the girl. She was scared enough by the thought of her sister locking her in a cave, let alone hearing that it had been five hundred years since then.
She raised her eyebrows, waiting for a reply as Damon sighed. "It's 2010. It's been five hundred years." He explained.
The second those words left the older Salvatore's lips, the girl became completely still, her heart racing a hundred miles. Damon looked at his brother in worry, who came closer to them. Her tired brown eyes teared up as she covered her mouth with her hands, breaking down. The worst had happened. Everything she had thought was true. Her sister had sentenced her to some kind of life imprisonment, for what crime? She didn't know. "Five. Hundred. Years?" She mumbled, looking up from the floor she had sunk to. "My sister took away my life...What was my fault?"
Damon bowed down to her level, grabbing her hand gently. "Nothing. Sometimes, really bad things happen to good people," He told her softly. Having been wronged by Katherine himself, he understood the pain of betrayal. Even though he could never fully understand what Rosemarie was going through, yet he wanted to try and comfort her.
The girl cried out, shaking her head at what had happened to her. Damon placed his hand on her shoulder, prompting her to look at him. Stefan watched, slightly surprised as his brother leaned forward as placed his hand on the back of the grieving girl's neck, placing it on his shoulder as she cried. Sure, Damon Salvatore had a history of doing terrible things, but he wasn't all bad. His humanity still shined in the moments people least expected him to.
The Petrova girl fell asleep on his shoulder from the exhaustion she had been subjected to for the past five centuries. Damon couldn't help but smile slightly as he picked her up made his way out of the cave along with Stefan, who was still confused at his brother's unusual behaviour.
As he placed the girl in the backseat of Stefan's car, his phone rang. Much to his surprise, the Bennett witch was calling him. He frowned as he picked up the call. "Bonnie...now is not the time- Just stay wherever you are. I am coming." He cut himself off, listening to the girl.
Stefan furrowed his eyebrows. "What happened?" He asked him.
Damon let out a sigh, getting angrier by the second. Elena had decided to hand herself over to Klaus, much to his disapproval. "Elena is playing the sacrificial lamb. You take her home. I'll get her," He told him, making his brother's eyes widened.
Before Stefan could object, Damon sped off into his car and drove away, leaving behind the younger Salvatore with the Petrova girl. He looked at Rosemarie, who was sleeping peacefully, her dark brown hair dispersed all over her face. He carefully made his way inside the car, brushing away the hair from her face.

Stefan parked the car in the driveway, getting out of the car with Rosemarie in his arms. He walked upstairs to one of the many extra rooms in the Salvatore Boarding house, tucking her inside the sheets. A smile made its way onto his face as she snored lightly, sleeping like a baby. He shook his head, getting out of the room before going to check up on Elena. Bit did the Salvatores knew, with the arrival of Rosemarie Petrova, their life was never going to be the same and neither were they.
