The woods. They were the only place where I felt safe and sound. Not from the physical dangers but the inner demons. Nature, for me, was my greatest friend. The sounds of the birds chirping, the gentle breeze flowing, the different flowers and trees, the streams. The peace I found here was sporadic. It kept me from giving in to all the incendiary voices in my head.

Even though It had been three months since I left Mystic Falls with the temperamental hybrid dick and Stefan, the latter barely hanging on the edge of control, the only thing that truly haunted me was the darkness inside my mind. It was like I was going mad. And to add to the fire, being with Klaus all summer did nothing but push me to the edge. Stefan and I, on the other hand, had grown close to each other.  After all, the only person we could count on was one another.

Klaus had once again pissed me off this morning. So here I was, sat on a wooden log in the woods, throwing Peebles in the stream like a 6-year-old child.

"He's still pissing you off?" A familiar voice asked me and I turned around to meet the hazel brown eyes of Riley Moore.

"Every. frickin. Day." I replied and threw a pebble in the stream as Riley sat beside me.

She chuckled softly and picked up a pebble in her hand. "Wow! He really must be something to annoy you this much. I mean, every time I see you, all you want to do is to tear his head off." She said, throwing the pebble in the stream and I laughed.

"That I wanna do," I replied and she laughed with me. I turned to look at her. "You know what?" I said and she raised her eyebrow. "I'm starting to think that you're following me," I stated in amusement.

"Oh, hell Nah." She rolled her eyes. "You're amazing, no offence, but all I want to do is put a whole continent between Klaus and me." She said and I chuckled.

"We all want that, don't we?" I replied. "Even if I ran away, where would I go?" I sighed and she put a hand on my shoulder.

"You could always join me." She wiggled her eyebrows.

"You? Your temper is worse than Klaus!" I said in a fake serious tone.

She faked a gasp and hit me on the shoulder. "It is not. And don't you ever compare me to that dick!"

"On the contrary, it is. Do you remember when you threatened to burn down a whole cafe just because they forgot to put cream in your coffee?" I reminded her and she smiled innocently.

"What? I want my coffee the way I want it!"  She pouted and I laughed at the face she made. "Hey! Do you remember the day we met?" She asked me.

"How can I forget? I made a great friend that day." I told her and she smiled. We both sat there, relieving the day when I met a particular Anne Riley Moore.
