The Veritas Estate had never seen such light. Laughter echoed throughout the house as Stefan, Valerie and Lily played with the latter's grandchild, lost in a feeling of pure elation. The younger Salvatore still couldn't believe the sight before him. Baby Lexi was in her grandmother's lap, playing with her as Valerie and Stefan watched with a smile on their faces. He knew that it was only a flicker of peace, cascading upon him for just a moment but he wanted to enjoy it as much as he could.
Meanwhile, Damon and Rose were walking towards the pond near the servants quarters, soaking in the warmth of the sun which somehow seemed to shine brighter than usual. The older Salvatore, familiar with the girl's love for nature had decided to bring her to their once favourite spot located at the onset of the forests surrounding the hefty estate.
Even though she had seen this place in their memories before, Rose had to admit that it looked heavenly in person. They stood by the pond, under the lush drooping branches of the weeping willows surrounding it. Magpies chattered and bees buzzed around them, the sun casting a golden glow on the trees. They sat down on the long and bright green grass, not caring one bit about their outfits as they placed their feet in the water, eyes roaming over to see squirrels darting around the tree's gnarled trunk in front of them.
Rose smiled at the little creatures who were enjoying their time in the sun. She breathed heavily, her well-endowed chest constrained by the corset, making it hard for her to breathe. Damon chuckled, motioning her to turn around and she did, their feet still in the water. He brushed her hair in front of her gently, undoing the lacing of her bodice. She sighed in relief, getting up and taking her dress off instantly, feeling free in the white slip she was wearing underneath.
She sat down again, clutching her unrestricted breasts. "Oh, my babies!" She exclaimed dramatically as Damon watched, laughing at her. She glared in response, squinting her eyes. "You have no idea how good that felt!" She argued. "This is how men managed to keep women oppressed in the old days. By making them wear this monstrosity! No more!"
They both laughed at her gesticulation, resting their bodies on their hands behind them."I've never seen Stefan so happy," Damon mused.
Rose gave him a small smile, staring at the willow tree in front of her. "It's just momentary,"
"Yes," He agreed, joining her line of sight. "But, still, thank you."
Rose looked at him, tilting her head. "I'm family, remember? There's no need to thank me," He nodded in response, leaning his head on her shoulder. "So, what were you and Mama Salvatore talking about?"
"Mmm...just the usual," He replied nonchalantly, yet a smile graced his lips, not going unnoticed by her. "She likes you a lot..." He told her.
She chuckled lightly as Damon sat up straight. "Seems like I'm Salvatore approved then,"
Damon stared at the base of the willow tree in front of him, its rough trunk holding memories both the brothers could never forget. "Stefan and I used to spend hours climbing these trees..." He told her, knitting his eyebrows together. "Then one day, he found his betrothed lying right there," He motioned towards the spot he had been staring at. "Her throat was torn out and her half-open eyes were staring up the sky like she knew a secret she'd never be able to tell,"
