"Who are you?" The girl choked out, her heart racing wildly in her chest. She seemed scared and wary, her body locked in a position of defence.
She tilted her head slightly to get a better glimpse at us. I froze. It was like I truly saw her now. Brown eyes, olive skin, beautiful little details that made her sublime.
I thought I was ready to face her, to look at that face again. But those eyes and that voice, the sense of deja-vu they brought was overwhelming.
Quickly composing myself, I pressed my lips into a smile similar to that of my brother's, knowing somewhere deep inside me... My life was never going to be the same again.
"Rose, love... You're now starting to worry me with all your zoning out,"
"Sorry," I apologized, shaking off the memories replaying at the front of my mind.
Today, the annual Miss Mystic Falls pageant was being held in the Boarding school. It had been conveniently timed to coincide with the school's tenth anniversary, which meant supernaturals and humans from all over the world were coming in for the celebration.
But for me, it was one big nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Just so much had happened here, so many things I could never forget. This was where I died and this was where I was reborn. This was where I fell in love, twice.
A rush of feelings bubbled up in me through the bond. Klaus had been showing me his paintings that were now going to be hung in the school's library, and to say he was excited was a massive understatement.
"You really love doing this, don't you?" I asked, watching him coddle the canvas like it was his baby.
He placed it down on the table, smiling at me. "Painting is a metaphor for control," he confessed, offering me his arm. I locked mine with his, greeting a few people along the way as we walked outside.
