-Micheal-
The sun had already gone down by the time I arrived home. I went inside the house not expecting anything to happen.
"Mom?" I said as I saw her hustling with my little brother, Max.
"Michael honey. Have a sit will you please." She was still moving around bags.
"Mickey!" My five year old baby brother ran towards me and I placed him on my lap.
"Mom what's going on?" Her face looked as if she were crying a few moments ago.
"Max honey go upstairs to make sure you didn't leave anything you need OK." She took him from my lap and set him on his feet as she kissed his forehead.
Max scooted off.
"Michael am sorry but am leaving your father." Tears were welling in her eyes as she said it.
I opened my mouth to say something, but she cut me off in midair.
"Michael I cannot take it anymore. The cheating, the lying." She fought hard to hold back tears but she failed miserably. I reached over to hug my grieving mother.
My mother was strong during all situations but when it came to my dad, there was just this weak spot. Her jet black wavey hair long touching her back. I hate seeing my mother sad. And now she's at her breaking point that she's leaving.
She and my dad bickered a lot about his playerism ways. Something that I shamelessly picked up, but I was an exact replica of my mom. And seeing my mother like this brought on an anger within me. Angry at my dad and angry at the fact that I picked up that stupid trait.
"Max is too young I won't leave him, but you Michael you're old enough to make your decisions. Any choice you make I love you and always will." She rubbed my face and I felt like crying myself but I had to be strong for my mother. Max came running back and mom dried her eyes quickly.
"Mommy am ready." Max's big hazel eyes looked up to me. And I smiled down at him as I picked him up.
My mom grabbed a suitcase and placed it at the back of her jeep. I quickly placed Max in his car seat and made sure he was secure. I ran to help my mom carry the rest of her luggage to the jeep. And then I closed the door.
"Michael," my mom looked up to me, " if you need anything, contact me. I'll keep you updated on where we are, but I promised to bring Max too my parents. Feel free to visit at anytime. I love you and am so so so sorry." She almost began to cry again. I pulled her into a tight hug.
"Mom it's OK. You gotta do what you gotta do. I love you too mom so very much." I held her at arms length as I looked at her. She then looked at me and went into the driver's seat and put in her seatbelt.
"Max you OK back there honey?" She looked at him through the rearview mirror.
"Yes mommy." He is so young and innocent, completely oblivious to anything going on right about now. "Aren't you coming Mickey?" He frowned.
"No squirt. I'll see you another time. I love you." I scruffled his unruly hair.
"I love you too. See ya." He giggled. And pulled mom pulled out of the driveway. I stomped back into the house full with anger and slammed the door so hard, I thought it would break. I grabbed my phone and sat on the couch waiting for my dad to arrive home.
The house was quiet. I still can't get the image of her crying out of my mind. Boy I can't wait till my father gets home. I checked my phone and saw a texted from the shy girl.
Hope you get home safe and you're welcome.
