Friday January 30th
Mason tried not to focus on her phone while she waited for Andrew to respond, but she found herself checking it several times in last seven minutes it had been since she last sent her third question. Maybe she shouldn't have asked, maybe they had something good going. Wasn't she just thinking that it was sweet, that it was fun? That there was no pressure on them about talking to each other?
To distract herself from focusing too much on it she found herself watching the guy next to her, not even caring when she was caught a few times. He really was attractive. Mason's phone vibrating brought her out of admiration and back to the present world.
Yes, ask away.
We've met a few times actually. Nothing official.
Are you wanting to officially meet?
A Drop in the Ocean - Ron Pope
Even though it was really stupid, a grin broke out when he sent another song. She had almost expected them to stop when they started texting. She reread the message as she added his song to her growing list on the back cover of her novel.
So we have met before?
The dots on the message began just as quickly as she sent it.
Yes, just not officially.
Pulling her hair into a bun at the top of her head Mason let it fall back down in brown waves.
Do you want to meet?
Mason knew she was just dancing around the question but she couldn't force herself to put it out there without knowing how he felt. She'd been hurt before, like really hurt, and the scars still seemed to be healing. And Mason knew it was unfair to Andrew to allow past hurts to impact what they might possibly have, but she couldn't help it. It was done without thought.
Here's my honest thoughts.
I can't help it, but with every conversation we have
I discover something more and more about you.
And the more I know, the more I like. If meeting
means we can see where this goes, I'd love to
officially meet you. Name the time and the place.
I'll be there.
And because of the irony of it, this is the next song
I wanted to send you.
Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran.
Mason reread his message over and over again and when Dr. Collin's ended her lecture for the day Mason was still sitting in her seat, biting her lip and watching her phone.
"Everything ok?"
Mason looked up to see the guy from the seat next to her standing up, slinging his backpack over his shoulders as he watched her concern on his face.
Forcing a smile and a laugh Mason stood as well, "Yeah, just over-thinking life."
"Well I hope it's nothing too serious. Have a great afternoon." With a wave he walked to the end of the row and left the building. Leaving Mason standing there in row 5 in front of the 9th seat and contemplating life.
