Andrew threw his order book onto the passenger seat of his truck in frustration. He had expected the seven-hour shift to force him to focus on other things, things like work. Instead he was a blundering mess all night, off his game and for the first time in the three years that he's worked at the restaurant he actually dropped two plates. Not just one, but two.
Ryan, his manager, had finally just sent him to the back to help the cooks.
So seven hours, two plates, and even more annoyances later Andrew finally got to pull his phone out of the glove box where he kept it while he worked.
Two missed calls from his sister, five texts from his housemates, and nothing from Mason.
Andrew didn't miss a beat as he touched the screen a few times and pulled the phone to his ear.
It rang three times before she answered and he heard her shush someone in the background.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Mason? It's Andrew."
"Hi." He could hear the smile in her voice and could just picture her biting her lip as she waited for him to respond.
"Hi." He smiled and leaned back into the headrest and stared at the roof of his truck as he tried to remember why he had called in the first place. "How are you?"
"I'm good. You?"
"Good."
He could hear a door shut as Mason moved around her room. "Did you just get off work?"
Andrew nodded before he realized she couldn't see him. "Yeah, what are you doing right now?"
"Nothing really. I had just been watching a movie with Audrey."
Without letting himself over think it he asked her, "Would you like to meet me for coffee?"
"Wait, what?"
"Yeah," Andrew ran with the idea, "We can meet at that Starbucks on 7th, it's 24-hours now. I want to officially meet you."
She didn't say anything for a second and he could hear her roommate in the background talking to her. He could hear her moving around and shutting draws, instinctively he knew she was biting her lip trying to figure out what to say. "Please."
"I can be there in 15 minutes. How will I know it's you?"
Relief flooded Andrew's chest and he had to resist the urge to laugh, "I'm in a blue plaid shirt and kakis. I'll get you a drink. Just sit at a table."
His excitement must have been obvious because it put Mason at ease enough that she laughed. "Ok, I'll see you there then."
"See you then." Andrew's goofy smile grew as he hung up. His phone instantly connected with his car stereo and began playing from her playlist. Something he had had on repeat these last few weeks and it picked up on the song he had last been playing.
"Stole your heart
Box it up and take it all the way to Mars
I need to know, I need to know."
He was out of the parking lot and halfway there before he even remembered to buckle his seatbelt.

Guys, I'm seriously so excited about this. I have planned for about two more chapters. One from Mason's point of view of the phone call and then one of them meeting.
Please vote and let me know how this is going and if there's any thoughts or music y'all would recommend.
As Always,
