February 14th

She sat at the table, impatiently tapping her foot against the bottom of the stool as she waited.

Checking her phone for the umpteenth time she finally have in and called him again. After the third ring it went straight to voicemail and Mason sighed in annoyance. "Andrew it's me, where are you? I've been waiting for 15 minutes already. Call me back."

Mason let out another frustrated sigh as she picked up her the mug in front of her.

Five minutes passed and then ten more before Mason stood in annoyance. This was their first Valentine's Day together and Andrew hadn't even bothered to let her know he wasn't going to show up. She could feel the hot tears begin to form and she bit her lip to keep them in check.

She waved to one of the baristas as she left the building and left a piece of her heart at the table with her empty mug.

She began walking back to the dorm, head down, hands in her coat pocket, and honestly her pride was kind of hurt. To focus on something other than her wounded pride she pulled out her headphones and continues walking.

Mason was so lost in her sorrow that she didn't hear her name being called and she didn't hear the frantic footsteps behind her.

She let out a little shriek as a hand clamped down on her shoulder stopping her from going farther.

"Mason," He panted doubled over, "I've been trying—to catch up with you—for the last—block."

One of his hands were on his knees and she took him in. Kakis, navy blazer, white button-up and a quirky bow tie. It was something so different from his usual appearance.

            "Andrew?"

"Yes," He tried to straighten up and he handed her a slightly rumpled bouquet of roses. "Sorry, they got a little messy on the run over."

            "Thank you, you're late."

            "I know."

"By more than half and hour."

            "I know. I can explain."

Mason smiled, "I'm looking forward to it."

"My truck broke down and I ran to the coffee shop."

            "You ran?"

            "Yes, I ran."

            "In a suit?"

            Andrew laughed, "Yep."

            "Just to see me?"

            "Just to see you."

Mason lifted the roses to her face and took a deep breath, "You should have called, I could have picked you up."

He handed his phone to her, "I might have dropped it on the run."

The phone had a spider web of cracks along the screen and when she tried to turn it on the screen went white.

"Where are you wanting to go now?"

"You've forgiven me?" When Mason nodded he grabbed her hand and pulled her in for a hug. "I'm glad. I have a pretty special night planned."

And doing something that he had wanted to do for weeks he lifted her chin up kissed her softly.
