"Karla!!" An older woman I assumed was Karla's boss shouted. Karla quickly walked towards her, I followed them, acting as if I were looking at the menus as the two talked.
"What do you think you're doing, flirting with the customers? You know that goes against our rules here right?" The woman asked her.
"I wasn't flirting!" Karla argued.
"Really? Because it looked like y'all were going to kiss." As the two argued in circles, I decided to intervene.
"That's because we were!"
They both snapped their heads at the same time. I gave Karla a small nod, so she could play along.
"Yeah.. We're dating." She lied, looked at my with a look practically pleading to go along with it which I did. It was probably the least I could do right now to get Chase off the hook.. Or to at least try.
I nodded. "Yeah, why else would we kiss?"
The woman sighed."Okay, but no getting distracted from your job either okay Missy? Please carry on with your job, now if you'll excuse me I need to use the restroom real quick." Once she was gone, Karla smiled.
"Thank you." She mouthed.
I then remembered those 5 dollars Chase and I were still missing. "About those 5 dollars-" I began.
"Oh, no no don't worry about that! Please, after that embarrassing mess that I made on your clothes.. It's alright."
I sighed in relief. "Thanks."
"Mhm." She hummed, before starting to walk away to continue doing her tasks. I started walking back to my table, until I heard another voice.
"Dating huh?" The voice of an older dude said. I realized it was Audrey's brother, as well as the father of that demon child. I just sighed and continued walking to my table, stopping when he spoke again.
"Didn't think I would see you here, but now that you're here I just need to ask, are you going to help us with Blake's birthday tomorrow? Audrey said you would."
"Yeah, yeah.. tomorrow." I nodded, suddenly remembering what I agreed to do. He stirred his coffee, mixing sugar onto it as he had to keep mentioning the Karla thing.
"You know I'm still pretty surprised you're dating someone.. Being honest I thought- "
"Alright alright, that's enough." I cut him off, I knew where this was going. I'm assuming Chase got the wrong idea from that since he walked over to us after coming out of the bathroom.
"What's up, this guy giving you problems?" He asked, eyeing the guy with a pretty intimidating look. He might've been out of prison, but he definitely hasn't lost his attitude. I restrained him from getting any closer.
"No, we were just talking." I looked back at Audrey's brother, he didn't seem a tad afraid of Chase and I had to admit, it was impressive.
"Yep. Just talkin'." He chuckled, his face dead serious. As he walked away, I walked back to Chase and I's table, cutting down a slice of the pie Chase ordered for me.
"Sooo, you gonna tell me who the dude is?" Chase asked me, drinking his chai.
"Actually, first of all let me just say.. you fucking saved me from the embarrassment of being almost 5 dollars short of the food. Thanks.. But admit it I was right, that Karla was definitely into you." He smugged proudly at himself, sipping onto his drink.
"Now the question is.. Are you into her?" He asked in between chews, washing it down with his coffee. "I mean, she's pretty cute." Chase made a gaze towards her, she smiled nicely at the customers as she took and gave them their orders.
"Okay, I can acknowledge that she is-" I was going to continue but Chase shushed me by jumping in.
"Just forget it Isaac, forget it." He wore a smile on his face as he looked at the window, snowflakes outside gracefully landed on the snow.
"I'm really glad to have found you Isaac." He breathed quietly, it looked like he could have an emotional outburst but he continued eating.
"It's really good." He repeated, finally looking away from the window after a few seconds, before looking back at me.
"So, how have you been little.. or not so little dude anymore. Man you've grown so much, look at that you even have tattoos!" He noted as I took my puffer jacket off, the cafe had a pretty strong heater so I figured it wouldn't hurt to keep it off for a while.
"Yep. It's not a big deal." I said, since they really weren't a big deal.. Alright I assumed some did have significance but I never really spoke about them, and I wanted to keep it that way. I was about to place my jacket on my lap.. Until I looked down and remembered the dry coffee stain I now had.
"Shit-" Chase commented as he noticed the now dried up stain. "Well at least we can chill in this warm place, right?" He rested his face on his hand. We spent a few minutes just eating, until he finally spoke.
"So tell me.. How have you been?" He asked me.
"Fine.." I mumbled, stuffing my mouth with food so I wouldn't have to say anything else, that didn't seem to work though since Chase just waited for me to finish eating.
"So, about that call your-"
"Just call him Rick." I cut off, since I absolutely loathed when anyone called that bastard my dad.
"Why the hell do you let him talk to you that way?!" Chase asked.
"I have my reasons." I sighed.
"Screw that dude, you need to get out of there!" Chase slammed his hands to the table, grabbing people's attention but he didn't care.
"It's not that easy!" I shouted back, looking back at the people staring at us.
"What? Did you guys come here to eat or to come spy on people's conversations?! Fuck off." I yelled at everyone as I stood up from my chair, not being able to keep myself calm. A lot of them quickly went back to doing their business.
"Sit down." Chase told me quite calmly. "Look, I'm sorry. I know you might not want to hear this, but I just care about you... Like I've always known your dad is a shit but holy shit!"
"Yeah about that.." I began, deciding maybe it was time Chase just knew the whole truth. Chase looked at me, a serious look on his face as he waited for me to spill it.
"Hey Park!" Some dude had suddenly stormed over to the table, a group of guys following close behind. Chase looked at them, a look of concern but also anger.
"Who are these guys?" I asked Chase, looking at the group. They all looked like they were mostly either teenagers or young adults.
Instead of answering, Chase just got up."Go to the restroom.. Or just get out of here." He ordered, much to his dismay one of those dudes jumped into the conversation.
"Oh no, no, the kid can stay." Some guy, probably around his late 20s said before looking at me. "We're the Crimson Takers."
Crimson Takers
Where did I recognized that name?
"I told you we would get our revenge."
Revenge? What did Chase do?
"For what? For beating one of you down in prison? You had that coming and you know it." Chase clenched onto his first, his fists started to shake the tighter they got.
"We're not here for that, we're here because you happened to kill my dad!" Some guy had suddenly made an entrance into the conversation, the group moving to let him walk up to Chase.
"Who are you?" Chase asked, looking like he genuinely had no idea who that guy was.
"I'm Wyatt Green, that guy you killed 5 years ago was my dad."
