Audrey's POV
"Blake!" I called as I noticed the door was opened. I shook my head. If Layton was here he would've for sure murdered me by now.
"Blake.."
I whistled, I don't know why I thought that would get his attention. I know he's not a dog, but I don't know what else to do. I panicked as I looked everywhere for Blake but he wasn't anywhere in sight.
"Mr. Walters!" I said to my neighbor as I saw him outside his front yard, mowing the lawn.
"Have you seen Blake?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I think the young man went over there." He pointed towards the right.
I nodded.
"Thanks."
I panted as I was out of breath when I searched every place I could think of.
Dear Blake where are you?
I tried to calm down and think.. If I were Blake where would I go?
That's right, the park..
I made my way to the park, where I saw Blake with a person wearing a balaclava. My first instincts were to defend him from the creepy.
"Blake! What did you think you were doing? And you.." I glared at the guy who was with him. "How could you do that?! Kidnap children like that!" I stopped when they interrupted me.
"Woah, woah relax. I didn't kidnap anyone.. It's me.." he took the mask off.
Isaac??
When I glanced at his friends I noticed one of them were the same guy I saw back at the mall.. Jonas was his name, I think.
Blake was really embarrassing me.. Continuing to call Isaac 'uncle' and before I even knew it.. Inviting him to the park.
Isaac seemed hesitant to do so, but Blake kept bugging him until he agreed. As we walked to the park, Blake ran to the playground where he was playing with a couple of kids.
"Hey Isaac.. I'm.. sorry about Blake.. I don't know why he left the house.. he said he wanted to find you but I actually didn't think he would do it.."
"It's all good.. I was gonna take him back to him to you either way."
I smiled lightly at him.
I looked in front of us, and noticed his friend staring, almost glaring at us while he was talking to his other friends.. I feel like he hates me for some reason.
"Isaac.. Are you sure you don't need to stay over? It's okay, I don't mind you staying over.."
His phone started ringing. He looked at the contact and he looked slightly terrified. "I have to go.." He got up.
I really wanted to ask where.. But we hardly knew each other, so I felt like I had no reason to be asking personal questions like that yet, so I just nodded. When he was gone, I looked back at Blake, who ran back to me.
"Can you buy me some ice cream, please?" Blake asked.
"Yeah of course." I smiled as we walked to one of the ice cream trucks.
"Bet I can get to the truck first, aunt!" Blake smiled mischievously before sprinting to the truck. I smiled in response and was starting to run until I felt a hand in my shoulder.
It was Jonas.
"Your name's Audrey right?"
I nodded.
"Yeah, is there something you..need?" I felt uneasy.
"Was Blake bothering you guys?" I asked, shooting a playful glare at Blake.
"No I promise!" He said, as he licked the top of his ice cream.
"No, I'm actually here to talk about Isaac."
"Isaac?"
"I think you should keep your distance from us. We're part of the Cardinal Bloods.. And we don't have the best reputation out there." He chuckled quietly, his eyes dead serious though.
Cardinal Bloods?
"I'm sorry?" I wasn't sure what he meant by Cardinal Bloods. What was that?
"Cardinal Bloods. Its a gang we're a part of." Jonas added on.
A gang?
I looked at his other friends behind him who were getting into a fight with another group of people. That explained a lot.. Like why Isaac dressed and acted the way he did, and why he, Jonas, and the people they hung out with all seemed to have one thing in common: And it was wearing maroon red. I didn't know a lot about gangs but I did know they all had some signature color.
"Oh.. Well..." I trailed off awkwardly. I didn't really know how to respond to that random piece of information I just received.
"Isaac's an ass most of the time... how'd you ever manage to get so along with him?" He chuckled, he seemed serious though.
Was that Isaac really that.. Bad?
"I don't know, I personally don't think Isaac's.. that bad of a person."
"Anyway about Isaac, where is he? Wasn't he gonna stay with you guys in the park?" He asked.
"He got a call so he left and-"
He cursed under his breath, I had no idea why. But he looked back at me.
"Alright, thanks."
He said before he turned his back and he started walking away. What was that all about?
~
After a while at the park, I started walking back home with Blake.
"Are you excited for 1st grade?" I asked Blake as we crossed the street.
He nodded. "I can't wait!"
"You're going to be a big guy soon." I smiled when we got inside our car.
I called Houston, our driver, a few minutes earlier to come pick us up from the park. As I looked at the window, I let my thoughts wander off, soon they all trailed to Isaac.
What exactly was going on with that boy? Why did he look so beaten up when he got to my house?
How in the world did he ever end up in the middle of the streets looking as badly beaten up as he did?
I doubt I'm going to see him again but part of me was hoping we'd somehow re-encounter.
When we got home, Blake and I sat down on the couch. We were not done with our talk. What Blake did was really dangerous and I needed to make sure he wouldn't do that again, because imagine if it wasn't Isaac who found him.
"Blake," I started to say. "I'm really mad at you for leaving without telling me. You know that when you want to go somewhere you need to tell me, grandpa, grandma or dad first right?"
"Yes. Sorry." He dropped his head down 'ashamed'. He was too cute to stay mad at, and my face automatically softened. I sighed.
"Alright Blake, just please. Never do that again... What were you doing with Isaac?" I asked him, genuinely curious as to what had happened.
"We were playing hide and seek with the police!"
"Wait.. What?"
Blake then started rambling on about what supposedly happened.
"Yeah! Well, tag. Actually I don't know. But it was really fun! You should've seen us! He took a wallet from a man then he ran like the wind! Then the police chased us and we got away then we met his friends and they scared a mean boy away and-"
"The police? You guys ran away from the police?"
Why in the world was he running-
I decided not to think too much about it. It's not like I'd see him again or something. At least I'm sure.
