I listen to music
And every song reminds me of you
Most are not even ones
that we listened to together
Sometimes it's a just song that I sang along to in the car
while driving to work
making up stories in my head
about how we were frolicking together
sharing strawberries in the park
or dancing in a nightclub
even though you don't dance
so that song becomes yours.
Other times it's the lyrics that remind me of you
as if the artist was channeling my thoughts about you
And then there are the songs that you played for me
only thirty second clips because you were so excited
to get to the next one you wanted me to hear
I can relate every song to you
so I look for only the happy ones
or the loving ones
Chasing cars becomes our fictitious anthem
I want to say those three words to you
It's uncanny
how every melody can make me think of you
but every song becomes yours
like every part of me is yours
