I too know why the caged bird sings
This winged creature's story is a bit different though
She was hatched in a cage
Was raised in a cage
And watched the world around her from a cage.
Occasionally the angel's cousin is released,
allowed to breathe air different from the one in her cell,
allowed to see without the fence filter obstructing her view,
allowed to interact with others privileged enough to have their free spirited souls shine brightly,
allowed to fly.
But then she faces the reality that all good things must come to an end,
and grimly returns to her cage
for what else is she to do?
Leave seems to be the obvious answer but for the dove the simple solution is way too complex.
And so she sings,
sings of flying everywhere and seeing everything.
Until one night she discovers how to the unlock the door,
and flies for the first time at night
only to cross paths with a raven, the fallen's cousin
and he shows her all that he can in night's time
But when the sunrises she returns to the cage
as if she never left
singing a new song.
The owners never noticed the dove's midnight flight
and so she is free to do it again if she can do so ever so secretly
who is to tell what she'll decide the following night,
Will she come and go singing in various tones each day
Or will she just go leaving everything she's know behind without a second thought?
Whatever she chooses the raven and others will be waiting.
