They had no idea
that there'd be someone who cares—
cares enough to check up on them,
not just on their bad days
but good as well.
Cares enough to stay
even when all they seem to do
is push others away.
Cares enough to just listen,
be the open ear that they need
and not the condescending, judgmental mouth.
Be loyal
even when no one else is watching.
To be their person.
They looked surprised, and ashamed
to find out that they aren't as alone in the world
as they thought they were.
