All four bodies of the sky. ]— Topography by Sharon Olds
First, the brightest of the four.
She who stands alone,
making the days that we all take for granted.
Then there's her mirror,
the other side of the coin,
the one who's the picture definition
of night light.
But she who stands tall in the dark,
doesn't stand alone.
For she has thousands of little ones
shining behind her.
Together taking the form of arrows,
thrones, and crowns.
But the one who truly wears the crown
is the one that nobody sees.
The one that holds the sun, the moon,
and the stars together.
No, not the sky.
The sky is merely a window
who allows us to see what else is out there.
I mean space.
She is who keeps it all together,
and for all we know—so much more.
She is who puts everything
where they are.
She is who lets the stars be our stars,
the moon be our moon,
the sun be our sun,
and for everything we know and don't—
ours.
