Volume 1 - Chapter 4: Do Monsters Know Gratitude?

And so, morning came. The sun rose brightly from the east, the sunlight it produced made it's way through the leaves of the tree I was sleeping on. Slowly and annoyingly waking my sleepy body up.

「Good morning, Alvis...」

I didn't really get much of a reply except a 『Hm』from Alvis, she must still be sleepy. Wait, does she even get tired? And so I jumped down the tree. It was 4 meters up now that I took a good look at the height I was sleeping in.

Rumble...

I sighed.
I'm hungry. I haven't eaten for a whole day yesterday so ofcourse I am. But I got just the right idea for me to get food right now.

「Alvis, use the navigating system of《Auto-Pilot》.」

She agreed with an 『Understood.』and a tiny disc shaped radar appeared in my sight. It was exactly at the upper left side of my sight like a game. It looks like my position is fixed at the circle's mid. Three seconds later after Alvis finished scanning the area, atleast dozens of red dots appeared in the radar in all directions a little away from me. Ofcourse, it startled me. It feels as thought I'm being targeted.

「Uh, Alvis... What are these dots? Is it the monsters?」

『Answer, yes. There are atleast 7 orcs, 2 kobolds, 9 horned rabbits and three slimes around you. Each of which are either level 12 to 18.』

What should we do? Will they attack us? Can we fight back with my pathetic level?

『Answer, no. They are not stupid enough to attack a stronger monster.』

That's a relief, I thought it was finally time to fight in this world- H-Hey, did she just call me a monster there? Might just be my imagination since I'm hungry. Hopefully.

「That aside, let's go get ourselves some food, Alvis!.」

The real reason why I asked Alvis to activate the radar was not to find and eat monsters. But to find edible fruits instead. I may be able to capture monsters like rabbits but how can I cook it's meat without fire? I'm not a savage either to eat raw meat.

『Master, I've found the nearest tree that produces edible fruits. I will input the coordinates to the radar immediately.』

Finally! Good refreshing food! Seeing the green dot that just appeared in the radar, I quickly faced the direction where it says it's located and sprinted to get there. I left the herbs I picked up in a thicket next to the tree I slept in. I feel like I'm falling slower than normal everytime I jump up a fallen tree log or a patch of herbs but it may just be my imagination.

And there I saw it. A gigantic tree three times the size of the trees around it and just four times as thick. From it's branch there were fruits similar to blueberries. But the most noticeable part of it's appearance was it's blue colored leaves.

「What's this?」

I've decided to appraise anything new I see just last night before I slept. So now that I saw this weird tree, I've gotta know it's information no matter what. It may be a monster in disguise that was able to fool Alvis' navigator function.

Although the tree gives power to the ones that consumed the fruits, it remains a taboo to eat the fruit made by a dead person.
