1976 (dazed and confused)

Holy shit!

We both start walking to the parking lot where Benny has his truck. We get up on the bed of the truck and drink beer like normal teenagers.

I don't pay attention to the conversation the boys are having about Benny paddling a kid. But that all ends when Melvin pulls out a piece of paper. Wait is that the same paper the boys were talking about earlier today?

"Say man, fuck the coaches just do it for us man!" Melvin says. Seriously what is on that paper?

"You pick this thing up?" Pink asks

Again I tune out their conversation but again that's interrupted by someone. Oh hell no!

"O'Bannion what's going on?" One of the boys I ask I can't make out who.

"Oh you didn't hear, did you hear I got a shotgun pulled on my ass?" He says

I can't help but chuckle "probably deserved it" I say.

"Oh hey Shelbs!" He says. I roll my eyes

"Only my friends can call me that!" I say back with anger in my voice.

"Oh we were more than just friends!" He says

"Yeah key word were!" I retort back

"Which reminds me why did we break up?" He asks

Oh you've got to be kidding me! This son of a bitch although I have no problem holding it back.

"We broke up because you decided to take all of the anger from your fight with your dad out on me and punch me IN THE GOD DAMN FACE!" I yell getting more angry by the minute!

"Hey hey woah woah let's calm down! O'Bannion man get out of here." Pink says

"Yeah man go on home" Don says

"Oh come on guys, she's the one who's yelling!" He says

"Only because you're being a fucking asshole to her, no wonder why she broke up with you in the first place!" Pink says, I can't help but look at him admiring as he defends me.

"Come on let's go get Slater and go to your house. Hey we'll see y'all later! He says to the guys.

"Alright bye" they all say.

As were walking back to his car it's complete silence. Probably because of what happened back there. So I decide to speak up.

"Hey I'm really sorry for what happened back there I shouldn't of gotten so angry." I say

"Oh no don't apologize it's him who should be apologizing. I've been wanting to punch him in the face ever since that night." He says

"That makes two of us." I laugh

He laughs back. My mind wanders to a lot of things but I have to ask this one question.

"Hey what was on that piece of paper? You don't have to answer if you don't want too." I ask

"Oh no it's fine! It's just a pledge sheet that the coaches are making us sign." He says

"Well whats on it?" I ask

"Just them saying not to take part in any drugs, alcohol, or sexual activity." He responds

"Ok that's complete bullshit!" I exclaim

"That's what I said!" He says

"I mean it's our last year, they shouldn't tell you what to do. You need to play on your own terms!" I say

"Yes thank you! You are literally the only one who gets me. This is why I love you!" He mumbles the last part.

Wait what did he just say? "Wait what?" I ask

"Alright Shelbs I gotta confess something." He starts. OMG wait what's about to happen.

"Ever since I met you in the sixth grade you were the most beautiful girl to me. And my feelings got stronger for you the more you grew up. Now I know when we got to high school we kinda fell apart because of football. But I didn't want to lose you as a friend so I kept building up the friendship more. The more and more we got closer the more I started to love you, not like but love. Now I know I'm 17 and probably don't know what love means, but when I'm with you Shelbs I'm in love with you every minute of everyday. I didn't want to make a move because you started dating O'Bannion so I started to date Simone and that was a big mistake because she's not you! She will never be you, so I guess what I'm trying to say is I love you Shelby Marie Pickford!"

OMG OMG OMG WAIT DID HE JUST SAY HE LOVES ME? WELL OF COURSE HE DID YOU DUMB IDIOT!

"You have no idea how happy that makes me! Because ever since I met you you were the most cutest boy in the room and you got more handsome as you grew up. I don't know why I dated O'Bannion when it was supposed to be you all along. I guess what I'm trying to say is I love you too Randall Pink Floyd!" I say

"You don't know how long I've been waiting for you to say that!" He says I don't even have time to respond as he crashes his lips on mine.

OMG NO WAY! He's kissing no way! In that moment it was like time stopped his lips were so soft on mine. He is nothing compared to O'Bannion. God he was awful! But pinks not he's perfect.

We have to pull back for air no matter how sad it is. "Wow" I say. Wow that's it that's all you have to say, all of that and you just say wow.

"I know" he smiles. I smile back.

"Shelby will you make me the happiest man on earth and be my girlfriend?" He asks.

"I would love too!" I say.

He smiles and kisses me again. But a thought comes into my mind.

"Wait what about Simone?" I ask as we pull away.

"Oh yeah about that. I broke up with her before the hazing. Found out she was cheating on me, it didn't upset me but I don't want to be with a girl who does that and I mean I've been wanting to break up with her for a while, so I could be with you" he says and I swear I got butterflies again.

"Ok but what if she does something?" I ask scared because when you get Simone and Darla together it can get ugly.

"She won't do anything because I won't let her! I'm not gonna let her ruin your night!" He says

"God I love you!" I say

"I love you too" he says as he kisses me again

We pull away only to find Slater smiling at us.

"Finally you guys got together you don't know how long I've been waiting for this!" He says

"Oh shut up Slater!" Pink laughs

"Come on let's go to my house Kev and Michelle are prob freaking out that we're not there." I say

"No he's worried about us two but not you Shelbs" Slater says.

"Oh shut up Slater!" I say as we all laugh

"Alright alright alright let's go." Slater says and stars walking in front of us.

Pink and I stay behind as he grabs my hand. I can't believe this pink and I are finally dating. I must be dreaming I swear.

This was prob the news that Kevin and them were talking about. And let's just say they were right about it changing my life.

But I can't help but think about Simone. Will she be mad? I mean she has no right to she did cheat on him several times, and I can't believe she did that. I mean pink is the sweet guy ever he deserves the world!

And what about O'Bannion? What is he gonna do? I mean sure we broke up because he's an ass and hurt me. But he never liked when guys would look at me, so he wouldn't like the fact that Pink and I are together.

But you know what who cares! This is our night to have fun. We're having a killer party and it's gonna be epic! But little did I know that party will not happen.
