I found Layla in the spot I knew she'd be in. Outside the How on the grass

"Hey," I greeted her, sitting down next to her.

She looked up at me then down at the ground. "Hey yourself," she sighed.

"You ok?"

She was quiet for a while. "I'm scared, Edmund. For the first time in a long time, I'm scared. Scared that I've failed my duty. Maybe I really am not cut out for being the Guardian. Maybe I should have given my powers to the Witch."

I gripped her shoulders. "Layla, don't say that. Don't even think it! You always have been a guardian even before you were the Guardian."

She looked up at me, those soul-piercing grey eyes shimmering with every bit of sadness. No wonder Peter fell for her.

"Look, Peter hasn't really been himself lately. He's just- been going through some rough soil."

"Seems something more than that," she sighed.

I looked at the grass. Should I tell her? Layla and I have always been close since the winter rebellion of Narnia. I could trust her but Peter would kill me.

"Edmund, you know something about Peter, don't you?" She inquired.

"Uh-" I avoided her questioning look.

She shoved me playfully. "Edmund!

"I demand you tell me!"

"Peter's going to kill me," I groaned.

"I'm your guardian, I'll make sure that doesn't happen," she reassured me.

"Well, um- remember the day we went to hunt the White Stag?" I asked.

"Yes, of course," she smiled. "It was the day we left Narnia."

I sighed, "It was also the day Peter wanted to propose to you."

She gasped. "How long have you known this?"

I scratched my head. "Um, a year, I think. Since going back in our own world, we were back to being our younger selves and Peter never had the chance again."

I looked at her. "Peter's taken coming back rather hard. We see it everyday, so please don't be hard on him. I think he has enough trouble to worry about."

Layla was quiet for a long while.

"I guess I was a little too angry at him earlier," she finally replied. "I'll talk to him about it."

I smiled and squeezed her shoulders. "I'm sure it'll do you some good. Now let's get ready for the raid tonight. Peter's going to need all the help he can get."

I stood up.

"I have a bad feeling about this, Edmund," Layla sighed.

I gulped. If the guardian ever had a bad feeling about something, something bad will happen.

"I don't know about this either Layla, but we have to do this." I turned to leave but Layla stopped me.

"Thanks, Edmund," she smiled softly, her grey eyes twinkling. "For the chat, I needed it."

I returned her smile. "No problem."

When the time came came to leave for the castle, the Narnian army set out to get a head start then we had griffin's pick us up with their claws. I was to get into the castle first while Layla led Peter, Susan, Caspian and Trumpkin in. This plan better work.
