We dashed through the halls of the castle while the bells for attack rang. Peter suddenly turned down a different hallway.
"Peter!" I exclaimed as Susan and Caspian came to a halt behind me. Caspian was still holding his wounded arm.
"Our troops are just outside!" Peter called back.
We followed him out into the courtyard.
"Now, Ed! Signal the troops!" He ordered as he slew two soldiers.
I looked up and saw Edmund fighting a guard.
"I'm a bit busy Pete!" He replied.
When the soldier drew back, I fired a green orb and knocked him down allowing Edmund to finish him off. Edmund threw me a thumbs up and I turned my attention back to the matter at hand.
"Peter, it's too late! We have to call it off while we still can!" Susan tried to reason again.
"No, I can still do this!" Peter replied, his stubbornness showing as he tried to turn the giant wheel to the gate. "Help me!"
I looked at Susan who rolled her eyes before we all helped Peter turn the wheel. Inside the gatehouse, I could sense that Trumpkin and the mice were working hard to lift the drawbridge.
"Just exactly who are you doing this for, Peter?" Susan questioned him but he didn't reply.
We continued to turn the heavy wheel when we heard the sounds of the Narnians charging through the gates a little late though.
We all turned around and faced to oncoming soldiers.
"For Narnia!" Peter yelled and we charged into battle.
More Narnians joined us in the fight. Susan began shooting her arrows at the soldiers while the boys fought with their weapons. I stood nearby firing my green earth orbs at the men and making vines shoot up to aid me in the battle. I heard a soldier fall and looked up to see Edmund there with a line of soldiers with crossbows next to him.
"Edmund!" Me and Peter yelled.
He looked over at the soldiers and then dove for cover behind a nearby door. I sighed, relieved and turned back to the fight. Several soldiers came at me but just wiped them out with my sword. I stomped and made a small earthquake to open up and swallow up other enemies in its path. Then I formed a lasso made out of a vine and used that to pluck off the archers on the walls.
"Get that gate closed!" I heard Miraz say.
I glanced up and saw a couple soldiers hit at a large barrel on a chain that held the gate open then the gate started to fall. Asterius quickly ran over and stopped the gate form closing.
I looked over at Peter who was on a stairway nearby. Fright was in his eyes.
"Retreat!" Peter ordered after a slight hesitation and ran down the stairs. "Fall back."
Glenstorm runs by and I assisted Susan into his back.
"Caspian!" Susan called as the pair ran out the gate.
I gasped. Shoot! Where did he go?
"I'll find him!" Peter assured her, running around telling the other Narnians to retreat.
I seized his arm. "No! I'll find him. You need to leave. Now!" I pointed at the gate.
"But Layla-" he started but I slapped a hand over his mouth.
"I'm your guardian! Now go!" I insisted.
He looked at me and turned to leave when Caspian rode in on a black horse with the Professor behind him. He also had an extra horse with him.
They stopped when they noticed Miraz and his general on the balcony. The general had his hand up to tell his archers to hold fire.
Caspian looked over at Peter and signaled him to get on. Peter ran over and I looked around for Edmund.
I saw an griffin shoot up a tower and circle around with Edmund on it's back. I quickly ran across the courtyard whipping my lasso around before shooting it up at the griffin. The griffin quickly grabbed the vine and reeled me in while I climbed up. Down below the many Narnians were being killed and I also noticed that the gate was now closed. If Peter had just listened to Lucy and I, none of this would have happened!
There was nothing we could do now but just watch.
"You were right, Layla," Edmund sighed, looking down at me in the griffin's claws. "This was a bad idea."
