Peter's POV
Susan landed safely on the ledge Layla created. She got up and looked at us then her eyes widened.
A shout aroused from the Telmarine army made me spin around. "Fleeing is pointless! Surrender now or the Guardian dies."
General Glozelle held Layla at sword point and her hands were tied tightly behind her back.
"Layla!" I exclaimed.
Her eyes flickered to mine then back down to the ground.
"That's right, the legendary Guardian is in our custody." General Glozelle tightened his hold on Layla and she tensed up.
"Stop it! You're hurting her!" I would've attacked him if my siblings hadn't stopped me.
"Don't, Layla knows what she's doing," Edmund assured me. "This must be the moon's last test."
I looked down.
"So what's your decision, high king? Surrender and hand over Caspian, don't and she dies."
Caspian and I exchanged a look.
"If it means she lives, I'll gladly do it," Caspian spoke up.
Edmund shook his head, "I'm sure Aslan's got a plan for her."
Layla's soft grey eyes were unreadable and she never said anything.
Surrendering would mean more Narnians would suffer and guarantee Caspian's fate but on the other hand not surrendering would guarantee Layla's fate and who knows what else the Telmarines had up their sleeves. I didn't want to loose her again.
"What is your decision?" General Glozelle repeated.
"I know the moon will relight, you just have to believe it." I heard Lucy's words echoed in my mind.
I took a deep breath. "No," I replied, slowly but confidently. "No. We won't surrender. We are not the ones to give up."
The Narnians sent a resounding cheer of agreement.
"If you say so," he replied, and with that, whacked Layla across the back of her head and she crumbled to the ground in an unconscious heap.
"Layla!" I exclaimed, horrified. I felt like half of me had fallen apart.
Suddenly, a tree root shot out of the ground, seized the general, and knocked him out.
"Lucy," I breathed. She did it. She really did it.
We looked around in amazement. Many trees were walking around picking up Telmarines and throwing them away or causing small qwakes and tremors in the ground to throw off the enemies advance.
I shared a look at the others we could do this!
A boulder struck a tree and it fell over. It's friend plugged it's root into the ground shooting it up near the trebuchet.
"For Narnia!" I yelled and the Narnians echoed the war cry.
We charge towards the Telmarines, more confident now.
The Telmarines sent up the retreat signal and they all started to run towards the bridge at Beruna. They halted just before the bridge and we came up behind them blocking their other exit.
Looking across the army, I saw Lucy walk up to them with a smile on her face. She drew her dagger confidently. Edmund and I exchanged a look. When we looked back, we saw Aslan standing next to her.
Sopespian stared at Aslan for a minute and then, "charge!" He shouted.
We didn't move, knowing Aslan's got it under control.
