A few minutes later I found Caspian out on a ledge overlooking the Beruna plains.

"Rough start uh?" I spoke up, joining him on ledge.

He didn't say anything and kept staring out at the grassy fields.

I looked at the fields as well, "you know, when I first started guiding the kings and queens in running a kingdom, I made a lot of messes too but that's just the learning process."

He finally looked at me and I continued, "it takes a lot of time and practice to get it right. What happened back there is just a milestone. I still think you've got it in you."

"I just thought I could help the Narnians," Caspian replied thoughtfully.

"And you still can, Narnia needs another to lead them." I put my hand on him arm. "Trust me, you're going great."

He looked at me for a while before looking back at the field. "Narnians already have you and kings and queens to help them."

I smiled softly, "I know you and Peter have your differences but that doesn't change what kind of leaders you guys are. I honestly don't know where I stand in all this too, you know."

I stood up to leave, "Whatever happens, I'm still glad you joined us."

Lucy's POV

I found Peter in the Stone Table room studying the carving of Aslan. Almost resurrecting the Witch must have been tough. After all, she did say that the moon could not be relit now.

I walked over to him and sat down, looking at the carving.

"You're lucky, you know. You and Layla," Peter spoke up.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"To have seen him," he replied. "I wish he'd given me kind of proof."

"Maybe we're the ones who need to prove ourselves to him," I pointed out.

Peter didn't say anything.

"Look, why don't you talk to Layla," I suggested. "I'm sure she'll love to help you."

Peter looked down, "I don't know, Lucy. After what happened, she probably still hates me."

"It won't hurt to try talking to her, you know. Trust me. Go sort things out with her and just be yourself," I looked at him. "I know the moon will relight, you just have to believe it."

Edmund ran up to us with a disturbed look on his face. "Pete, Lucy, you'd better come quickly."

Peter and I shared a glance then followed Edmund out the door.

Layla's POV

When Peter and Lucy joined us, we looked out over the plain of Beruna. Hundreds of Telmarines marched across the field all clad head to foot in steel armor. Groups of them marched in an orderly fashion and dotted among them were enormous catapults carrying large round boulders. There were also men behind those as well to help operate them.

Soon they came to a stop and a line of mounted soldiers galloped down the center and lined up in front. A horn blew and down the center line came Miraz on a white stallion with a gold chest plate and blinders. Miraz himself wore gold colored armor. He came right up to the middle of the line.

I gulped. This wasn't good, and we needed a plan.....now. There were more at camp also.

I shook my head and walked back into the How. The others followed.

I explained to the Narnians I wanted Lucy to ride into woods to find Aslan.

"Cakes and kettledrums!" Trumpkin exclaimed. "That's your next big plan? Sending a little girl into the darkest parts of the forest alone?"

"It's our only chance," I argued.

"And she won't be alone," Susan spoke up.

"Haven't enough of us died already?" Trumpkin asked.

"Nikabrik was my friend too," Trufflehunter replied. "But he lost hope. Queen Lucy and the Guardian hasn't, and neither have I."

"For Aslan," Reepicheep announced.

"For Aslan," a bear echoed.

"Then I'm going with you," Trumpkin told Lucy.

Lucy put a hand on his shoulder, "no we need you here."

"We have to hold them off till Susan and Lucy get back," Peter spoke up.

I looked at him.

"If I may," Caspian asked from nearby.

Peter nodded and I smiled. Edmund was right. Peter was finally coming back to his senses.

Caspian stood up. "Miraz may be a tyrant and a murder, but as king, he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people. There is one in particular that may buy us some time."

"Well, then, let's get to it," I agreed.

We spent the rest of the meeting writing out the challenge and organizing how we were going to execute it. Peter arranged for Edmund, Glenstorm, and Wimbleweather to carry the challenge to Miraz if, that is, I went with them.

After the meeting, I hung back in the room where Peter was wrapping up.

"Looks like the High King has returned," I commented from a nearby pillar.

He smiled softly, "well, he took a while."

"And I hope he stays," I added.

"I'm sorry about everything, Layla, I just-,"

I interrupted him. "I know, Edmund told me everything."

Peter frowned and I quickly added,
"I asked him about it. Ever since we came here, I was afraid something had happened between us, but you showed me that you really can get your senses back."

He glanced at Lucy's retreating back. "With a little help."

"I think Lucy's the more reasonable one out of both of us," I laughed.

He looked down, "I don't blame you for breaking up with me, I kind of needed it."

I walked over to him, "then I'm happy to have helped."

He took my hand. "What about the moon? Can it relight?"

I studied his face. "I don't know, but I think it's starting to."

He smiled again and those blue eyes sparkled like the way they did back in the Golden Age. "I was hoping so."

He drew me in closer and kissed me. It was the first and best kiss in a long time. Butterflies erupted inside and I smiled. It was good he was back.

Lucy's POV

I dashed out of the Stone Table room ecstatic after walking in on Peter and Layla kissing.

"They're finally kissing!" I yelled.

"Well it's about time they did," Susan replied. "Those two have been on two opposite ends of a gorge ever since we came back."

"Did the moon glow?" Edmund questioned.

I just shook my head. "I'm just glad things worked out between them."
