Edmund's POV

"Layla, wait!" I called, running after her. "You can't do this, give up your position as Guardian. Please-" I grabbed her arm and a vine latched onto my arm as if begging for comfort. "Please Layla- you're family. None of us would want you to leave us."

She tried to pull away but I held onto her arm.

"I know things aren't going well with Peter. But please don't give up on him, please don't."

There was a long pause, an agonizingly long pause.

"I'm done, Edmund, I just- can't do any of this anymore," she finally replied.

The vine on my arm gave off a bittersweet feeling. Like you've tasted the sadness of death and like there were gloomy clouds in the sky that even the sun couldn't part.

"For years, I've tried my hardest to keep you all safe, even from stepping too far into the dark. I've been through a lot but Peter hasn't seen that you can't change what has already been done," she finally looked up at me. "I thought Peter and I still had something but I was wrong. So wrong."

She broke into tears and started crying crumbling to the ground in a messy heap. I knelt down next to her. "Hey, you always have been a strong person. You've fought the hardest foes and you've never been afraid of death. That breakup with Peter must have been hard on you. I know it has on Peter."

"I didn't want to do it," she sighed. "A part of me still wants him, but I just can't stand it. Trying my hardest to keep things from getting out of hand. Fighting to keep all of you in line. I just- can't believe I fell for someone who just can't keep his head screwed on right."

"Look, Peter's trying. Just be patient, I'm sure he'll come around."

"You sound a lot more positive than I do about this," she noted.

I chuckled lightly, "I've been around Peter a lot longer than you have."

That made her smile a little.

"True."

She went quiet again, then she looked up at me. "Something's wrong, the earth's cold."

I touched her, icy. "Oh no..." I muttered.

"Quick! We have to tell the others!" She tried standing up but she fell back down. "Ooh, forgot my powers sorta weakened. Didn't think I'd feel frostbite again."

I helped her up. "You ok?"

"Let's just get to the others." She replied.

Layla's POV

I dashed for the source of the cold. The Stone Table room.

"Stop!" I ordered as Peter and Trumpkin joined Edmund and I in the room.

The White Witch in an ice wall. Boy, the sight of her made me shiver.

The Witch's minions raced towards us. The werewolf crawled over the table and pounced on me but Edmund brought his sword down on it's head making it howl. I stood up and looked around. I didn't think fighting some of Witch's army was part of the plan.

I saw Lucy come up behind Nikabrik a put him in a choke hold with her dagger but he twisted her arm around and removed her weapon then shoved her to the ground. The hag had managed to knock Peter's sword out of his hand.

I created two vines and used them to hold down the werewolf.

"Kill him now!" I exclaimed, trying my best to hold on.

Edmund quickly stabbed his sword into the animal and I was able to relax. Peter had managed to kill the hag by throwing her into a pillar and Trumpkin killed Nikabrik by stabbing him with his knife.

Peter ran up to Caspian and pushed him aside pointing his sword at the lady in the ice wall and the witch fell back a little.

"Peter, dear," the witch cooed evilly. "I've missed you.

"Come," she extended her hand out of the ice, "just one drop of blood. You know you can't do this alone. The moon's power is useless, you can't possibly relight it now."

Peter hesitated, then lowered his sword. That's when a sword pierced the ice wall followed by a boom and the ice chattered into pieces.

Edmund stood behind the ice wall with a serious look on his face. "I know, you had it sorted." He told Peter with a frown then walked off.

The boys looked back at me but I just shook my head and left with Susan and Lucy.
