I sat down at the table. The other waiter went to pour wine but i put a hand over my glass.
"No thank you, just water please." she nodded. Eleanor kept screaming for Dan, he finally appeared. Serena sat next to me and I gave a reassuring nod.
Cyrus started explaining everything and as much as I was interested and I liked him, my brain switched off. That was until I felt Serena leave her chair. I glanced up and saw her leave with Dan. My eyes flickered and I looked to Lily and Rufus with a questioning look. Cyrus spoke hebrew and a few minutes later Dan came back and leant down to my ear.
"Serena needs your help." I nodded and excused myself. I went into the hall way and there was Serena talking to a guy.
"What seems to be the problem?"
"Who are you?" I didn't like his attitude already, and I wanted to punch him
"I'm Serena's sister, talk to me like that again and you'll be icing your balls. Show a girl some respect." I scolded and he looked uncomfortable. I turned to Serena who had a expression between uncomfortable and grateful.
"What's going on?"
"This is Gabriel, Poppy's boyfriend and a long story. He wants to talk but obviously..."
"She won't even talk to me. I mean after everything that happened, you won't even explain why you left?" Gabriel continued seeming a little hurt.
"I called her." I started to lie "I had an emergency that only my sister could get me through. She got on the first flight. You have a problem take it up with me, otherwise leave. I don't feel like having swollen knuckles anytime soon maybe I'll try the kicks I did on my Uncle, those seemed to work" I thought about it.
"An emergency?" he questioned "What was so urgent?"
"You ask a lot of questions, you're very nosey into the lives of people you don't know" I stepped forward, but Serena pulled me back
"Rosie, stop it wouldn't be go for the...." she stopped oh no she did not just imply that I was pregnant. Gabriel's eyes widened
"Oh. Right."
"Dan, Cyrus says that we are missing the lamb bone." I internally groan "Oh hello. Is this another one of your friends?" Eleanor wondered towards Serena
"Yeah. Sort of. But he's leaving."
"I didn't mean to interrupt your evening." Gabriel apologised. I didn't like him, not one bit, there was something strange. No one is that flawless.
"Oh, not at all. Would you like to join us? We're having a Seder." I hid my face in Dan's shoulder, he rubbed comforting circles on my lower back
"No, No. I'm sure he can't." Serena denied
"I'd love to meet the people in Serena's life. Perhaps it'll help me better understand her." I wrapped my ams sound my boyfriend.
"Wonderful, there's even and empty seat. It's for Elijah but you can take it." Eleanor took his coat Gabriel walked on and Eleanor handed the coat to Dan
"You are in serious danger of losing your tip." Eleanor warned my boyfriend
"We'll be right behind you. I just need a sidebar with Serena." I smiled and pulled her away.
"Are you freaking kidding me?!" I whisper yelled "Pregnancy? You implied pregnancy that was the first thing that came to your head?!"
"I know, I'm sorry. I panicked."
"Duh, if you're gonna say anything why not the obvious. I'm a recovering addict. He's already suspicious, though I think he did believe the P word. Oh of all the things Serena. This...this is gonna blow up in our face. We're screwed." I vented at her. I wish I had never come.
"Just calm down, we just need to deflect." she tried to reassure me.
"For how long, I like Cyrus and I am curious about Passover but he's droning like I don't even know what he said before you left because I switched off."
"Come on." We headed back to the dining table and sat down
"Then we eat the afikomen, say the blessing, after the meal, sing a few songs and then we're done. So as soon as everyone, minus Rose of course has some wine, we'll begin."
"Oh, strike me now." I grumbled
"we haven't begun?" Eleanor spoke a little exasperated
"Oh, I'm sorry, are you the Gabriel as in the Gabriel that was in Spain with Poppy and my daughter?" Lily asked
"Yes. In fact..." Serena cut hm off
"Cyrus this wine is delicious"
"Oh, well thank you dear. We're not supposed to drink it until the blessing, but we'll make the exception." Cyrus replied
"Rufus, do you represent any artist with my attention?" Allen wondered
"All of my artist are worth attention. Otherwise I wouldn't represent them." Dan came in and went to pour some more wine."
"Why is he serving wine? Isn't he supposed to..."
"He's just being helpful. Dan, baby, come sit down right next to me, please." I pulled him into the empty chair beside me." I put my arm around him
"Oh, well, that's where we just moved Elijah. But oh well." Cyrus stated
"Eleanor you don't mind if he joins us do you?" I smiled sweetly at her. we change positions so that his arm is around me
"At this point, why not? We're not eating anytime soon." she retorted
"Humm, food." I mumble looking down ant my grumbling tummy and rubbing it slightly
"Is everything alright, Rosalie?" Lily wondered I nodded and took a hold of Serena's hand. I needed all the support I could get not to freak the fuck out. I look at the glass of wine, I wonder what...No Rose no!
"Now we will say the Kiddish or prayer for the first cup. I'll say this in english because I look around this table I see that most of our guests are not speakers of Hebrew."
"You don't really think that?" I heard Rufus
"We praise you Adonai, our God ruler of the universe who creates the fruit of the vine..." I took a deep breath keeping calm.
