"Reiki I li- GAAH!" I was interrupted by a sudden pain in my stomach. It hurt so much I was on one knee with my right hand on my right leg and my left hand on the floor next to my knee.
"Hey are you okay?!" He asked frantically.
"Go get my Dad!" I told him.
He left and the pain got a little worse. My throat also felt like it was squeezing shut, making it hard to breathe. Dad and Master Mavis came in without Reiki.
"H-Help m . . . me!" I gasped as my breath was being taken away, and it wasn't in a good way.
"Bring Reiki back in here NOW!" Master Mavis ordered.
Dad left and came back dragging Reiki by the arm. I growled at Dad. My eyes widened as I realized what I did. Dad immediately dropped Reiki's arm and held his hands up in a surrendering position. For some reason I relaxed when he did that.
"Wait, the pain is gone!" I told them, confused.
"Well I'm sure that growl made Gray realize what's going on," Master Mavis said.
"You didn't tell him yet, did you?" Dad asked me.
"N-No. I kinda got interrupted," I said, pointing to my stomach as I got up.
"Well then, we'll leave so you can tell him, and then come get us when you're done," he said as he left the infirmary and Master Mavis disappeared. "Come get us" was code for "tell me what his response was."
"So, what did you want to tell me again?" Reiki asked. I decided to speak before that mysterious pain came back.
"Reiki, you know I'm a devil slayer . . ." I started.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Well, I like you as more than a friend, and I was accidentally put into an induced mating season and I think you're my mate!" I said quickly. I wanted to get it over with.
He looked at me with a dumbfounded expression. "Come again?" He asked.
I sighed. "Okay, I was put into an induced mating season by accident," I said slower.
"Mhmm . . ." He said, to tell me to continue.
"So I really like you, more than a friend," I said, now blushing. He blushed too, but way more than me. I guess it's a trait from his dad.
"R-Really?!" He said. He was definitely caught off guard with this.
"Yeah, and I think you're my mate as well . . ." I added.
"O-Oh well . . . this changes things," he said awkwardly.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I-I may have asked for Nova's help to impress you . . ." He mumbled.
Now it was me who wore a dumbfounded look.
"Pft what?!" I laughed, "You should know better than anyone that I don't like the type of boys who show off!"
He laughed too. "Yeah my mistake . . ."
"So, do you accept being my mate?" I asked.
"Yeah of course!" He smiled.
I then thought of something.
"Wait, you said you asked Nova for help, right?" I asked cautiously.
"Yeah why- ohhh . . ." He said. He now understood.
"Out of all people what possessed me to ask HER?!" He yelled, which was rare because he was a naturally quiet person unlike Aunt Erza.
"It's like asking Aunt Mira herself! What if she tells her?! We gotta fix this!" I said as we scrambled out of the infirmary and down the stairs. Who would put an infirmary upstairs anyway? That could seriously cost someone's life one day.
We were too late. Nova and her mother were looking at us with a smug look.
"I'll be expecting a picture of an AlEiki moment soon!" Aunt Mira said.
"Make that two!" Nova added.
"Oh god they already have a ship name!" I said.
"They must've been planning this for a while. I only asked Nova two days ago," Reiki said.
"Then you underestimate the mother-daughter matchmakers of Fairy Tail, Reiki," Uncle Laxus added, "I overheard them trying to come up with ship names last night. Trust me, this is one of the better names."
"So since Alaska isn't crying or anything, and Reiki didn't run out upset, he accepted being your mate?" Mom asked excitedly.
I nodded, blushing.
"Well then Levy and I will have to teach you about induced mating season. It's different from the natural version, like your father and the others went through," she told me.
"Ugh, extended study lesson," I groaned.
"I thought you love books?" Reiki asked.
"Yeah but not when they aren't stories."
"Well without this 'extended study lesson,' you wouldn't know that Reiki has to be within 6 feet of you all of the time until this is over," my mom said with a smug look.
"Wait what?!" We yelled.
"B-But that means . . ." I started.
"Yep! Think of this as a one week long sleepover. Except you have to take each other everywhere," Aunt Levy joined in, holding two books titled, "Induced Slayer Mating" and "How to Be a Good Mate."
"Okay, Romeo, take this book and come with us to the library. We're gonna need you," Aunt Levy said.
"I'm coming too!" Wendy said as she got up with Romeo.
"Of course!" Levy replied. They were mates after all.
So me, Mom, Dad, Mavis, Aunt Levy, Reiki, Romeo, and Wendy went to the library.
"Now, Romeo and Wendy should teach Reiki, and the rest of us will teach Alaska. Also, Gray what are you doing here?" Mom asked Dad.
"I'm making sure Reiki doesn't try anything with my precious daughter, that's what I'm doing," Dad said as he hugged me protectively.
"Geez Gray, seriously?" Levy asked.
"If anything, Alaska will be the one trying something with Reiki. She's the slayer here, not him. Eventually she's going to try marking him, remember?" Master Mavis told him. I blushed at the way she said it.
"Ugh don't remind me," Dad mumbled in reply and let go of me.
Reiki sat down, with Wendy on his left and Romeo on his right. Wendy set the "How to Be a Good Mate" book in front of them and smiled kindly, saying they should get started.
I suddenly growled again. They all looked at me. I looked shocked.
"You're wondering why you're growling, correct?" Master Mavis asked. I nodded.
"Well there is one reason but two causes. The reason is protectiveness. Slayers are protective over their mates during any mating season. They growl when they think someone will either hurt their mate, or take their mate away from them," she explained.
"What?! But Wendy's like, 25! And she has a mate herself!" I argued.
"It doesn't matter, really. Thinking your mate will be stolen from you applies to all slayers of the same gender as you, no matter age and if they have mates. The only thing that can overcome that is if they have a serious amount of trust in their mate and that slayer. It's either you trust both or you trust none and growl," She replied.
"Ugh, this is gonna be hell!" I groaned.
