MITANSH

"Dude, Where?" I asked through the phone call.

"Bhai, I'm with Inayat at the basketball court. The hell you are?" Maahir strikes back.

"I asked you to come to the library, right? If you remember." I rolled my eyes.

"Library? Oh the text.... My fault. Should I bring Inayat too? I think she is done with, umm, whatever she was doing here." "I'm totally free!" Inayat added. Is the phone on speaker?

Inayat? No, she can't come! I can't ask about the poem in front of her!

"Maahir, I need your help with something personal. Otherwise I would have asked her only." God, I don't even know what I'm trying to say.

"Ahhhh, got it! I'll be right there." He said in a weirdly loud voice and I hung up the call. What did he get?

After a few minutes, he showed up. "May I know why the hell you went to court?" I asked while adjusting my fingers on my forehead.

"First of all you tell me, why didn't you warn me before?" He pulled the seat and sat in front of me.

"Huh?"

"I freaking said to her, mom called me to fetch some groceries and Mitansh is coming with me!" He panicked

"Groceries? Seriously!" Me clearly ready to give him a warm round of applause on his creative excuse.

"I-i" He put his head down on the table.

"And how did she react?" I rested my cheek on closed fingers.

"She looked at me with a blank face and after a long pause said, 'OK'! What have I done?" He didn't bother to raise his head to speak.

"Relax-"

"I haven't spoiled the plan, right?" I pulled away my face from my hand and confusion drew on my face. Plan?

"Plan?"

"You called me to discuss Inayat's birthday party, right?" He looked me in the eyes.

Inayat's birthday? Holy fishes, how could I forget about this?

"Ya, right! Thank God, you got the hint!" I smiled nervously, trying to go with the flow. Now, what should I do?

Mitansh, look at the positive side... See now you got a reason to ask him how to write poems! Otherwise he would have trapped you into a string of questions, What? Poems! You? Nooo.

But, this feels wrong.

You can't change it, right? So why not take this to your advantage?

"Maahir, I want a favor from you." I scratched the side of my head.

"If it's related to Inayat, then I'm ready to help." He showed me his honest eyes.

"Why? Just because she's my girlfriend?"

"Not everything is related to you, idiot. She's a really good friend of mine, and I want her birthday to be special!" He nodded softly.

"Oh. Can you teach me how to write a poem?" I glanced at my laptop.

"What, poem? POETRY and Mitansh. What on Earth is happening?" he pretended to be shocked.

"I knew you were going to say something like this. Such a waste of time, petrol and my energy. Ugh!" I rolled my eyes.
