KABIR MEHRA

'Here is your schedule for today Mr. Kabir Mehra, after a beep, the message will end. 6:30 am Breakfast with Mr. Mehta, chairman of Elec and Life,

7:30 am Conference with...'

The machine went on to recite my schedule for the day, as I stood under the shower. The machine is everyday updated by my personal assistant, Ms. Kaur. The splashing sound of water suppressed the recorder's voice, and I slowly got lost in my thoughts. Thoughts which were filled with peaceful and work-free life.

I was getting frustrated with my everyday life. Actually, why won't I? It's the same, a loop.

The recorder says that the message will stop after a beep, instead they should replace the sentence with, 'After a long span of years' or 'extinction of mankind'. I muttered to myself while standing under the shower.

I've spent four years of my life making Teen-Tech, a recognised and respected organization in the technological field. To make this organization a success, I stopped taking out time for myself and avoided any such situation which would result in the delay of this wonderful establishment.

It's been 10 years, ten years since when my life went all upside down. Ten years, to the death anniversary of people who once I thought were inseparable to me. To the major car accident on NH-2, which changed.... My life.

"Kabir, we're on our way to home!" My dad spoke gleefully. My parents were coming home after their 6 day business trip. I was waiting for them at home, alone that night.

"You said the same thing 2 hours ago!" I stomped my foot on the sofa cushion, as I was sitting sideways on the sofa.

"Just- just, a few more hours, and we'll be there with you!" Mom joined the conversation.

"I miss you both." I buried myself in the comfort of the cushion.

"We miss you too, Kibbo!" Her soft voice was enough to make my heart wait more patiently.

"Kibbo, do you know what? We got you a surprise!" Mom clapped in excitement.

"Is that the telescope I asked for?" I jumped to sit on the sofa straight. A grin covering my face.

"No, keep on guessing!" I threw a lot of guesses in her way, and she kept on denying them.

"Ugh, it must be one of them! You're lying because the surprise won't remain a surprise if I guess it correctly!" I folded my free hand against my chest.

"Umm... noooooo!" Dad laughed from behind and then, we all started laughing.

"Woah, drive carefully Abhay!"

"This truck, I don't know why the driver is driving it so rashly?"

"He might be drunk, but you drive safe."

"What happened?" I asked as suddenly the atmosphere became tense.

"Nothing Kibbo, it's just one truck. Waittt, why are you overtaking Abhay?" Mom addressed dad, almost screaming in shock.

"He's taking forever! It's fine, don't panic!" Dad tried to calm mom, but it didn't feel like it was creating any difference.

"Mom, I think I should end-"
