jeno sighed in relief when class was over. for some reason, today felt way longer than usual and he was just glad that it was finally over. everyone had immediately rushed out when the teacher said class was dismissed, including the teacher himself and also jeno's best friend, renjun. the older said that he had to go home and study, even though he did that every day after school anyway.
he packed away his things and was about to leave when he then noticed something lying on the floor out of the corner of his eye. he furrowed his eyebrows and went over to it before crouching down and picking it up. he stood back up again and inspected it before realizing what it was.
it was renjun's sketchbook.
despite them both being very close and best friends ever since they were four years old, renjun still kept a lot of things a secrets. for example, this sketchbook. jeno hadn't looked in it even once in his life. he hadn't even seen at least one drawing in it. he never asked to look in it though, knowing that the other had his reasons.
he was very curious though...
jeno sat back down in his seat and put his bag back on the floor before placing the sketchbook on the desk. he tilted his head stared at it for a while, debating in his head whether he should look in it or not.
he was very tempted, but renjun also trusted him to never look in it, and he didn't want to lose that trust. he huffed and thought for a little while longer before making a decision.
one small look won't hurt.
he reached out his hand and slowly opened it to the first page. he was definitely shocked at what he saw. this is what renjun was hiding from him?
it was a drawing of jeno's face.
a very good drawing to be exact. it looked exactly like him... but obviously in pencil. he sighed, confused to why renjun had drawn him but shook it off, thinking that maybe it was just a one time thing and he just did it because they were best friends.
it turns out he was wrong... very wrong might i add.
as jeno continued to look through the sketchbook, he saw nothing except his own face. every single page had a drawing of jeno's face, and he was now beyond confused. so this was why renjun didn't ever want him looking in it and why he was so secretive of it. but... why him though? was there a reason that renjun was only drawing him? he honestly just had no idea what to think or do right now.
he was about to close the sketchbook when suddenly the classroom door opened, making jeno shocked. he looked up and saw his best friend stood there
"oh jeno, you're still here?" he asked and jeno nodded in response. "alright! well, i was wondering if you've seen my sketchbook anywhere-"
renjun stopped in the middle of his sentence when his eyes moved to the desk where his sketchbook was, still open. his eyes widened and he quickly rushed over and grabbed it before closing it. he carried on trying to hide it, even though there was really no point now since jeno had already seen everything in it.
"you said you'd never look in it!" renjun exclaimed
"i know, i know! i'm sorry, i was just really curious to why you were always so secretive about it and why you were always hiding it," the younger responded.
the chinese looked down, not trying to avoid eye contact with his best friend. it was no doubt that he was extremely scared and also extremely embarrassed. i mean who wouldn't be in this kind of situation?
"but seriously, junnie... why has your sketchbook only got drawings of me in it?" jeno asked, genuinely confused by what he saw and he really wanted an answer.
"well..." renjun started but he didn't know what to say. he looked up, accidentally making eye contact with the other and immediately regretting it. he sighed and looked back down for a few seconds before looking back up and staring at jeno. "i did tell you i draw pretty things, so what do you expect, nono?"
jeno was shocked at the unexpected thing the older said. he was about to reply but the smaller beat him to it and spoke first instead.
"anyway, i'll see you tomorrow, jen!" he exclaimed, before hurriedly rushing off. while jeno, on the other hand, was just left there in shock, but that shock soon turned into happiness.
