Today was the start of Gabriel's holiday which also meant that there was only one week left until Alex would be back in Michigan. He had no idea what would happen after that and felt a bit awkward trying to talk about it.
So he didn't even try. Yes, it was a cowardly move and he was only pushing the inevitable but he didn't want to ruin their good days with anything complicated.
At least for now, he was satisfied with the way things were with Gabriel and would worry about the rest later when it was relevant. He didn't want to risk anything before that and ruin what they had by saying the wrong thing.
He wanted to make sure that they separated on the good terms and would meet each other even after he went back home. That wasn't possible if they were fighting about something on their last day because the odds of continuing their friendship after that would be quite small. And he didn't want to lose Gabriel in any way.
If he was really lucky, they could even be something more. For days, Alex had found himself to be very impatient with himself. Every time he saw Gabriel, listened to Gabriel or even though about Gabriel, he also thought about how much he wanted to kiss him.
That kiss hadn't left his mind and he wished he had more courage to do more. Well, it wasn't even a real kiss, just a quick peck that was given to a grandmother on the cheek. After their date, he had panicked over how to end their date and just quickly kissed him like that and left.
It wasn't even all because of what Gabriel had talked about in the restaurant about him and the reasons why he had dated so many wrong people in the past. There were many opinions that he could have about that and he still wasn't sure what to think of all that.
What Gabriel had talked about confused him a lot but he wasn't angry that he got a bit blunt and straightforward with him. That just showed that hopefully, Gabriel wasn't scared or too shy to tell him everything that was on his mind.
He could see himself opening more to Gabriel in a way he had never done with anyone in the past and he got the first taste of that on a date. It wasn't half that bad and maybe they could talk seriously like that some other day if Gabriel was interested.
"How's your head?" was the first thing Gabriel said when he came over. Somehow Lincoln managed to get himself to work after yesterday, at least Alex heard him moving around the house before closing the door so he assumed that he went there.
There weren't any plans for today but Gabriel seemed to decide that they were close enough to come unannounced and invite himself over. Alex didn't mind at all, it just showed how close Gabriel was starting to be with him.
"Not bad, really. I only had a couple of drinks yesterday and I can handle much more," Alex smirked.
Then he went over to the kitchen to make something to eat for himself and Gabriel, assuming that he hadn't eaten breakfast although he usually did. It was only 10.30am and he was curious about why Gabriel was so here so early but didn't say anything.
When Gabriel followed him, Alex looked at him more closely while still being only in boxers. Gabriel looked like a huge nerd, but a very hot one, with a dark blue checkered shirt, jeans and his typical glasses.
The sight of him made Alex automatically smirk as he thought that if they would have gone to school together, Gabriel would have been his sexy tutor.
"You're sure you can handle it? Alcohol?" Something in Gabriel's voice made Alex's smirk disappear. It took him a few seconds too long to realize that he was thinking of Leo and how much alcohol changed him.
What on earth could he say to that? Alex felt as helpless as on the date when he heard the story for the first time. He couldn't stop thinking of how miserable Gabriel must have been while still trying his best to love his husband and make their marriage work.
