Alex hated the distance.

It has been months since they had a chance to meet each other and until a couple of weeks ago, it hadn't been a problem. This meant that despite their distance, they had been happy together and their relationship was strong.

But then Leo had relapsed and suddenly they didn't have even the little time they used to have for video calls, texting, phone sex and all that. Gabriel's ex-husband had relapsed and suddenly he didn't matter anymore.

And it's not that he didn't understand that Leo might need support and help with alcoholism. He did. But now Gabriel felt responsible especially after making that promise that day about helping him.

From what he had heard, Leo was sober again so what was the problem? Unfortunately, Alex hadn't realized that the help meant taking most of his time and doing god knows what. He didn't know what that was because he was in Michigan and Gabriel didn't have time to explain.

Of course they talked here and there but it wasn't the same as what it used to be before Leo started to need Gabriel. His Gabriel. Or was he even his anymore? Maybe he was just overreacting but it sure annoyed him and he didn't know what to do. Let this continue and beg for his attention like some pathetic clingy boyfriend? No thank you.

When Gabriel had reunited with Leo after almost a year and had asked if he had a problem with it, he should have been honest. He should have said yes. But how could he have known that the ex-husband would become a problem after only a few months?

"So tell me again why do you let him seduce Gabe?" Harry asked, mouth full of fries. Frowning at his choice of words, he almost stood up and left back home. It's not like his friend needed him to buy gifts for his mother who he had built some kind of a relationship after so long. At least they were buying gifts for each other.

"He's not seducing him!" Alex rolled his eyes before taking another bite of his hamburger before saying anything else. In fact, it was better if they didn't talk about this at all anymore.

"But didn't you say..." Harry started, probably ready to say something stupid and false but he interrupted him.

"I said that they're friends. That's it!" He wasn't sure if he was trying to convince Harry or himself more. Maybe both. Why did he even need convincing? "No one's seducing Gabe."

"Okay so what were you just complaining about for two hours?" They had been at the shopping center for twenty minutes. Maybe he should try to find some Christmas gifts already, it was November after all. Something for Maggie, Harry, the twins, Julian, Lincoln... and Gabriel. Gabriel was important too.

"What do you want me to say? That some asshole is trying to steal my boyfried? That I'm stuck here and I can't do anything about it? That I don't know when I'm gonna get the it's not you, it's me-speech?"

"Alex, calm down. As far as we know, nothing has happened and nothing will happen. The only thing he has done is help Leo with his drinking. And if you feel like you should be worried, maybe ask him about it and tell him how you feel."

"Tell him how you feel? Don't you think I haven't tried? I did my part, now it's his turn. If he wants to be with Leo then he can be. See if I fucking care."

"You're impossible! Come on let's go find Heidi that gift so I don't have to be here with you. Your stupidity could be contagious," Harry groaned, talking about his mother who he didn't feel comfortable enough to call his mother just yet.

Despite what he had said, his friend's words stayed on his mind even later when he got back home with a couple of gifts for his family. Nothing for Gabriel, though. He couldn't find anything for him.
