Alex wasn't stupid, he could tell that something was on Gabriel's mind after they went to get ice cream. He had been pretty silent, lost in thoughts, answering with short answers and not continuing the conversation.

In the end, all three of them parted ways without talking much for the rest of the day. There could be thousands of reasons why his behavior changed during such a short time but it seemed that this time Gabriel wouldn't tell him the right one.

Honestly, he didn't think that he would hear from Gabriel anymore tonight but he was pleasingly surprised. He had just gotten back to Lincoln's home which was empty, telling him that his temporary roommate hadn't been there since this morning.

Laying on the couch, he answered the call with a smirk on his lips and started to plan how to get Gabriel to talk for the rest of the evening. "Missing me already?"

"Maybe but don't let it get into your big ego," Gabriel laughed. Was he flirting with him? Although he knew that they were going out, while not technically in a relationship, it still surprised him.

"Oh, I don't know if I can promise that. You see, your compliments are a special kind," Just as Alehex was about to answer, Gabriel interrupted him. "I just called to apologize. I know I was acting... weird and rude and I didn't mean to be like that with you. So I want to apologize."

"It's okay." That was all he could say since he still didn't know why his behavior had changed so suddenly. It seemed that despite apologizing, Gabriel didn't want to explain any further and because of that, he wouldn't even ask. But the question was, what would happen after that?

"Do you want to do something together?" Ah, here it was. Even though he didn't want to force Gabriel to talk to him, he couldn't say that he liked it either. He was a bit annoyed that he just pretend that nothing happened and asked him to come over.

It was unclear why he was making it such a big deal. Maybe it was that even after getting to know each other and being nearly inseparable during the last week, they were still at that stage where they couldn't be honest with each other. He had thought that they had gotten through the part where they hid something on purpose.

Oh god, now he sounded like a teenage girl who couldn't get enough attention from his crush. And Gabriel was his crush, there was no need to hide it anymore.

"I promised to be with Link tonight so..." There was a silence as he stopped talking, not knowing what else to say. It wasn't easy to explain why he didn't immediately run to Gabriel after he gave him a chance to do that.

Alex could have asked him to join them but he didn't and the silence told him that Gabriel understood the message loud and clear. "Oh... umm, well, have fun."

The phone ended and Alex could only think that this was the most awkward conversation he had ever had with Gabriel. It wasn't his fault, was it? To make himself feel less guilty, Alex tried to distract himself by calling his sister.

"Hello!" A chuckle came out of his mouth when he heard his niece shouting to the phone. Grace had just learned that she could talk with people by using the magic machine, the phone.

"Hey, sweetheart. How's life without me?" he smirked and listened as she immediately started to tell everything she had done during the last nine days.

"And then Zoey came here and we played -" Whatever game she played with her neighbor young girl was left as a mystery because Maggie had taken the phone from her.
