Smiling, Gabriel watched the little girl in the kitchen. It was obvious that she was trying to get the candy from the top shelf, knowing that she was told not to but she didn't care about the rules.

Although she was almost eight, she was small for her age in every way, including height. Because of that, there was no way she could get the candy, much to her disappointment. Poor Cece, they were always trying to ruin her life!

Gabriel watched her in silence for about ten seconds, knowing that if she was about to fall he could get there in a second and save her from getting hurt. Only when she kept trying and even went to stand on the chair on her toes, he had to interrupt what she was doing.

"Qu'est-ce que tu fais, ma chérie? Essayez-vous d'obtenir quelque chose?" (What are you doing, darling? Are you trying to get something?) Gabriel smirked, voice full of amusement when she froze on the spot like a deer in the headlights.

"Rien! J'essayais seulement de voir si cette chaise fonctionnait," (Nothing! I was only trying to see if this chair works) she answered, avoiding looking at him in the eyes. He couldn't help but be impressed that she found a lie so quickly even though it shouldn't be the most admirable quality in a young girl.

"Et ça n'a rien à voir avec les bonbons?" (And it has nothing to do with candy?) he smirked, making her immediately shake her head as a no. "Eh bien, si vous ne les voulez pas, je peux les donner à quelqu'un d'autre. Peut-être que ton père a faim?" (Well, if you don't want them then I can give them to someone else. Maybe your father is hungry?)

An adorable pout came on her face and her eyes were filled with tears. Good job, she would be an amazing actress! If this hadn't happened so many times already, he would be on his knees and begging for her forgiveness, willing to do anything to make her smile again. But he wouldn't be fooled that easily anymore.

"Mais j'ai faim aussi, Gabe! J'en veux juste un!" (But I am hungry too, Gabe! I just want one) Cece was trying to change his mind with her adorableness. Sorry, sweetheart, not gonna work.

If she was talking with Leo, then she would already have all sweets they had in their home but he had to be the responsible one. Unfortunately, Gabriel had become the bad cop in their home while Leo was the good one who got all smiles and laughs because he could never say no to her.

"En parlant de ton père, tu veux aller le réveiller? Rappelez-vous, c'est son grand jour. Souhaitez-lui un joyeux anniversaire!" (Speaking of your father, would you like to go wake him up? Remember, it's his big day. Wish him happy birthday!)

Her miserable face was immediately filled with joy as she started to run towards their bedroom where her father was still sleeping. While she did that, Gabriel went to the fridge and got a big strawberry chocolate birthday cake he had baked for his husband early this morning.

When he heard laughter coming from the bedroom, Gabriel had to stop and smile like a maniac. God, how much he loved that sound, loved Cece and their life! This was everything Gabriel had ever dreamed of and he couldn't be happier.

And it was all thanks to Leo. Sometimes he wondered what would have happened if they didn't go to the same college. It was a scary thought but he liked to think that eventually, they would have met somewhere, there was no doubt of that. They were soulmates, after all, and would be together for the rest of their lives.

Shaking his head, Gabriel got rid of those thoughts and followed Cece to his and Leo's bedroom. He could hear his two family members talking together and laughing, just like they were supposed to. The smile wouldn't leave his face no matter how hard he tried.
