Chandler hugged her for what seemed like forever to Mac. When she pulled away, JD hugged Mac and offered to take her home. Mac shook her head and walked to class.
For the rest of the day, McNamara seemed distant from everyone. She didn't talk and would sit and find some inanimate object to stare at. By the end of the day, she had spoken a few sentences and no one was gonna bother her. JD lead her out of the school and drove her home. When she got home, she sat down and did her homework before taking a nap.
Hours later she was woken up by her mother yelling, "Heather Kate McNamara! Get your ass down here right now!" She dragged herself out of bed and downstairs to the living room. Her mother was pacing back and forth with her cell phone sitting on the coffee table. "I just got a call from your school. They said you slapped someone." Heather shrugged. "Yeah, I did. So what?" Her mother looked at her if she had suggested they move into a shack. "So what?! It makes me and your father look bad! They said the kid could press charges! Why are you so fucking stupid sometimes?" Heather stood up and made her way to the staircase. Her mom grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. "You aren't going anywhere. Not until you apologize to the poor kid you slapped." Heather pulled her wrist away. "I'm not fucking apologizing to him. You can tell him that he's dead to me. The asshole raped me, mom! He fucking deserved it!" Her mom slapped her. "Then that should be a compliment to you! You're such a fucking disappointment!" Heather ran upstairs and locked her door. Seconds later her mom was banging on the door. "Heather Kate! Open this door right now!" Heather ignored her mother and climbed out her window.
She carefully climbed down the side of the house and ran to the park. She climbed into a tree and prayed that no one would find her. Every once in a while, someone would pass by on their evening walk or someone would drive by and Heather would hold her breath and remain still. After what seemed like an eternity, a familiar voice came from behind Heather. "Hello, haven't talked to you in a while."
