She must've been reading for hours because by the time Heather looked up from her book, it was 8:15 at night. She put down her book and changed into her pajamas before making a frozen waffle and settling down on the couch and eating in silence. As she finished her waffle, she heard the door open and someone say "Damn it, Jordan! It fell again!" Someone, maybe Jordan, replied "Well it's not my fault. You're the one who decided to move into another dorm at 8:30 at night! You should've known the microwave was gonna fall!" Heather sighed and said, "Don't bother. We already have a microwave. Ashley didn't take that with her." She turned around the face the boys and saw JD. He smirked and said, "Thanks for your help, Jordan. I got the rest from here." Jordan shrugged and walked down the hall. JD tugged the rest of his stuff into his new room and sat on the couch next to Heather. "So darling, seems as if the universe is trying to tell us something." Heather moved onto the floor and said "You and I both know neither of us believe in that 'the universe is telling me something' bullshit." JD shrugged and looked at her. "Why are you so anti-social?" Heather mumbled, "You're one to talk." JD chuckled. "Darling, I have a few friends. I haven't seen you at any parties, get-togethers, or anything social besides classes." Heather shrugged. "I don't need to. I can't trust anyone, especially college students. I just want to get through college." JD nodded. "What are you studying to be?" Heather looked down. "Journalist..." JD stared at her. "I'm proud of you, darling." Heather picked at her nail polish. "So what are you gonna be?" JD leaned back on the couch. "An English teacher." Heather nodded and stood up. "Hey where are you going? It's not even 9 o'clock." Heather faked a yawn and said "I'm exhausted. I'm gonna get some rest. Night." Before she could leave, JD grabbed her waist and pulled her down. "Before you go fake sleep, I wanted to talk to you. I miss you, darling. The real you." Heather sighed. "This is the real me. People change. You would cut class and refuse to speak to people and now you want to be an English teacher and you have more friends than me." JD hugged her and mumbled, "Can you stay here till I fall asleep?..." Heather nodded and he put her down next to him and laid his head in her lap. Heather began to run her fingers through his hair. JD drifted off to sleep with Heather following a few minutes later.

In the middle of the night, JD awoke to a thunderstorm. He sat up and heard soft crying coming from his right. He looked over to see Heather hugging her knees and crying. "Hey." She flinched and backed away. "Hey, darling, it's just me okay? What's wrong?" She shook her head and wiped her eyes. "Nothing. I'm fine." JD pulled her into his lap. "Tell me." Heather mumbled, "My mom wants me to come home...I have to leave...she said that there's no point in me being a journalist so all this is a waste of time..." JD hugged her and replied, "Well then what are you gonna do when you get home?" She looked out the window. "Whatever she wants me to do..." The two sat in silence for some time. Then Heather's phone buzzed and the screen lit up. JD grabbed her phone and read the text out loud. "You better not be ignoring me. You're an ungrateful child. After everything I've done, you continue to disobey me. You've told me how I make your life even more miserable and how you want to be dead. Then you can go ahead and kill yourself. It makes it easier on me. Goodbye you disappointment." Heather slowly moved away and locked herself in the bathroom. JD ran after her and tried opening the door. "C'mon darling. Let me in. Please." Heather starting cutting herself and choked out, "No!" JD slid down against the door and could hear her hissing in pain or crying. He eventually found a key and opened the door the find Heather sitting on the floor crying and cutting herself. He quickly cleaned and bandaged the cuts and once he finished, he pulled her into his lap and played with her hair. "Shhhhh it's okay. You're okay. I'm not gonna let anything bad happen to you, darling." He kissed her forehead and pulled her closer. Heather eventually calmed down and pulled JD to her room where the two spent the rest of the night cuddling.
