After school, the three Heathers were chatting at their lockers. Veronica was nowhere to be found and a small scrawny kid with glasses claimed that she was pulled out of school early for a doctor's appointment. Martha overheard the kid tell the Heathers this information and she knew Veronica did in fact leave early. "Now's my chance." thought Martha. She summoned up all her courage and shut her locker. She quietly made her way over to the Heathers, aware that this could end in her being publicly embarrassed. The Heathers were too involved in their conversation to notice her. Martha cleared her throat and the girls turned and stared at her. "What do you want, Dumptruck?" Heather Chandler's voice like ice. Martha stuttered and stared at her feet. "If you don't have anything to say then move it, bitch!", said Duke. McNamara, however, stood by Martha and said "Guys, c'mon, let her talk." Martha gave Mac a small smile. Chandler rolled her eyes and said "Fine, but make it quick." Martha took a deep breath. "Listen, Mac, it's about JD. Earlier in the library Veronica was flirting with him. I don't think he realized because they were talking about Moby Dick and he thought it was just a friendly conversation. But when the bell rang, Veronica pulled him aside and handed him a slip of paper. I'm guessing it was a note or her number. But anyways she kissed him and left and he just looked around to make sure no one saw...I'm sorry...I just thought you should know." McNamara stared at her feet and mumbled "Thanks for telling me, Martha..." Martha nodded and patted her shoulder before leaving.
McNamara looked at Chandler and Duke. "I don't feel well...I'm not up for the mall...sorry." Chandler and Duke nodded and McNamara went to go catch the bus. Chandler and Duke remained at their lockers and discussed the news Martha had brought. "Do you think he likes Ronnie back?", asked Duke. Chandler shrugged. "No way of knowing unless we ask." Duke sighed and shut her locker. "Still on for the mall, Chandler?" Chandler shook her head. "I have a better idea. Come over at 6 and I'll show you." Duke nodded. JD came running around the corner and stopped when he saw Chandler and Duke. "Heather! And Heather! Where's Mac? I promised I'd give her a ride home but I had to stay after class for something. Where is she?" Chandler slammed her locker shut. "Wouldn't you like to know, Jesse James?" "I would. That's why I asked." Chandler gave him a dirty look before saying, "She took the bus." Chandler motioned for Duke to follow her and together the girls left JD alone and confused.
JD slid down against the locker. He pulled out his phone and tried calling Heather but it was immediately declined. He tried once more to be declined again. He decided to text her. He waited for a few minutes and he looked back at the message to see she had left him on read. He was alone for five minutes before a familiar voice spoke. "Hey what's wrong?" He looked up to see Veronica. "Girls are confusing." She laughed and opened her locker. "I thought you left early." Veronica took books out of her locker. "I did but I came back to switch lockers." He nodded. "So what exactly makes girls confusing, JD?" "I don't know...it's just that Heather didn't wait for me and she declined my calls and won't answer my texts...I don't know what happened..." Veronica tried looking sympathetic but on the inside she was celebrating. She sat next to him. "I know you love her but maybe she's moved on." He looked at his phone. "Yeah...probably..." "I care about you, JD. You know what you have to do right?" He mumbled, "Yeah.." He tried calling Heather again to be declined once more. He texted her, "Heather please just pick up." She read the message and called him. "What do you want, JD?..." He noticed the change from Jason to JD. "Darling, what happened? You ignored my texts and calls and you didn't wait for me." He heard her sigh on the other end. "Because Martha told me about the library, JD. She told me about how Veronica kissed you and how you didn't get upset at her. And how you just were concerned if someone saw..." JD's eyes widened. "Darling, I-" He was cut off by Heather, "Don't call me that." JD looked at Veronica and Veronica mouthed, "You can do it." He nodded. "Fine. We're breaking up, Heather." Then he hung up. Veronica hugged him. "Hey, Ronnie?" "Hm?" "Do you wanna go out Friday night?" Veronica smiled. "I would love nothing more."
McNamara stared at her phone. She tried texting him but she was shaking and couldn't type. She stared out the window the whole ride. On her way home, a car pulled up beside her. "Hey babe~" Heather walked faster. "Leave me alone, Ram." Ram rolled his eyes. "Damn you don't have to be so rude. What's got your panties in a twist?" Kurt laughed. "I think JD broke up with her." Heather kept walking "You don't know that." Kurt smirked. "I don't? I think I have all the proof I need from Veronica." Heather looked up. "What?" Ram started laughing and said, "We texted her and asked her if she wanted to come on a double date later and she sent this." Ram pulled out his phone and showed Heather the conversation. Veronica had replied "I have a boyfriend." and sent a photo and her and JD at the 7/11. Heather took off running and ran into her house, slamming the door shut. "Heather Kate! Don't slam the goddamn door! Get your ass in here!" Heather dragged herself to the kitchen where her mom stood baking cookies. "Why'd you slam the door?" Heather mumbled, "I just had a bad day. Sorry." Her mom rolled her eyes and shooed her away from the kitchen. Heather ran upstairs and hugged her pillow and started crying. She eventually cried herself to sleep.

Months passed and it was now summer. Heather was preparing to leave for college and she never left her house. On the rare occasion that she did, she wore long sleeves and yoga pants. Sometimes she saw some kids from high school or sometimes even JD and Veronica on a date. JD took notice of her rare public appearances and that she was usually covered up despite it being in the upper 90s all summer. Most of the day, her mother was at work. Her father had just left to go to work and hasn't returned in three weeks. At first they thought he had been kidnapped but Heather had found a note explaining he had just left them. She began to cut herself. At first it was just a few but it had progressed to an unsafe amount of blood loss each day.
