It was Monday morning and JD had just rolled out of bed. He spent his entire weekend with his girlfriend and his only regret was that 2 days wasn't enough time to spend with her. He checked his phone and saw that he had one text. He figured it was from Mac but upon closer inspection, he realized he didn't recognize the number. The text read "You hurt her, I hurt you." He didn't know anyone with the number. He figured it was one of those wrong number mishaps so he blocked the number and deleted the message. He wasn't too worried considering threats were nothing more then dark promises. As he went downstairs, his phone chimed with a text from Mac. "Mom is taking me to school today. I'll see you there. Love ya!" He smiled and texted her back. "Okay. Love you too, darling." He hit send and slipped his phone into his pocket. He wasn't too hungry so he just grabbed an apple and decided he'd eat it when he got to school. JD slipped out the front door and mounted his motorbike and road off.
As he neared the school he heard the familiar sound of kids laughing and yelling. "Another day in living hell." he thought to himself. JD had never really been one for the whole friend group bogus. Like his father, JD preferred to work alone. All his life he'd been moved around so he saw no point in bothering to make a good first impression. Most of the time, JD was only in a place for 3 weeks. During those three weeks, he would attend school and get called names. It didn't bother him like it used to. His mind wandered to a certain night when he was 8. He had come home from school crying and spent all night being miserable before his father had told him "If someone is making fun of you, just kill 'em. Or blow their house up." As barbaric as it sounded, it's what JD's father had done. Shaking his head, JD tried to clear his mind. "Maybe life is finally turning around," he thought, "I mean, it's been 4 weeks and dad hasn't said anything about moving. He hasn't been home for a few days, which is odd, but I don't have to deal with that asshole." His thoughts were interrupted by a loud and commanding voice. "Did you get my text, trenchcoat?" He turned to find Heather Chandler behind him, burning holes into him with her eyes. "When the hell did you text me? You don't even have my number." She gave a small laugh. "Oh but I do. Y'know, it's very easy to get things out of Mac. I felt bad about tricking her but it's for the best." "What do you mean?" She gave another laugh, this one felt fake though. "The text you got this morning. That was me. I tricked Mac into giving me her phone and I wrote down your number and texted you, dumbass." JD flipped her off. "I'm not going to hurt her. Don't be such a bitch." Chandler rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Just know, I'm watching you. If you hurt her in the slightest, I will make your life living hell." JD shrugged. "As far as I know, my life is already a living hell but bravo for trying." He smirked and walked off, leaving Chandler as red as her blazer.
The day passed with just one more interaction between the queen of high school and mysterious new kid. JD hadn't seen Heather since 3rd period. She hadn't shown up to 6th period biology and the other Heathers and Veronica were there which meant she wasn't skipping. He met up with Chandler in 7th period study hall. "Hey, Chandler." Chandler looked up to see JD standing in front of her. "What do you want, asshole?" she hissed. He shrugged off the insult. "I haven't see Mac since 3rd period. Do you know where she is?" Chandler looked shocked. "You're right. She wasn't at lunch either. She never skips class unless I make her so I know she wouldn't be skipping. I don't think she's sick either. She seemed fine this morning." JD nodded in agreement. "She was fine all weekend too." Chandler raised an eyebrow. "How do you know?" JD rolled his eyes. "I was with her all weekend, stupid." "What were you doing all weekend?" JD glared at her. "None of your business. Can we focus?" Chandler sighed. "Fine. But we're continuing this discussion later. They talked about where Mac could possibly be and the different causes of her disappearance.
