After school, JD and Chandler drove to McNamara's house. Upon arrival, they noticed a car in the driveway which meant either one of her parents was home early or someone was over. Chandler knocked on the door. JD was pacing back and forth on the porch. Chandler had noticed. "Would you knock it off?", she asked. Her question was met with a glare but JD did indeed stop pacing. Chandler knocked on the door again. This time, it was answered. The door swung open to reveal McNamara. "Oh hey guys! Can I help you?" JD turned around when he heard her voice. "Oh good! You're okay!" He hugged her and kissed the top of her head. Chandler smirked and said "Where were you? You just disappeared." Mac laughed and said "I told you guys! I had a doctors appointment and my mom just didn't feel like bringing me back to school. What did you guys think happened?" A look of realization crosses JD and Chandler's face. "Ohhhh..." "Yeah." JD hugged her once more. "Well then, darling. Since I know you're okay. I'm gonna head home. Love you!" He got onto his motorbike and rode off. Chandler and McNamara gossiped for a few minutes longer before bidding a goodbye. Chandler climbed into her cherry red car and rode home.
As JD pulled up to his house, he noticed his father standing by the front door. "Oh great," he thought "what did I do now?" He parked his motorbike and sauntered up to his father. "Greetings and salutations." His father nodded. "So what did I do wrong now?" asked JD. His father shook his head. "Nothing. I just wanted to tell you that I met this woman today and she's coming over for dinner with her daughter. She said her daughter is your age and attends your school." JD scoffed. "Are you trying to replace mom? After you blew her up?" "She knew damn well I was blowing up that building. She walked in there of her own free will!" JD rolled his eyes. "You blew mom up. You're the reason she went in that library." JD's father laughed. "Well there's nothing you can do about it now. If we're lucky, the same thing will happen to that stupid girlfriend of yours." JD had enough of his father. He lowered his voice. "She isn't stupid. She's a hell of a lot smarter then you. I would never do a thing to hurt her." His father shrugged him off. "Whatever. Just be ready before 7:30. That's when they're coming over."
Around 7, JD made his way downstairs. He didn't know how long the guests would stay until so he decided to go back up to his room. At exactly 7:30, the doorbell rang and his father shouted "GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE, JASON DEAN!" JD rolled his eyes and shut his book. As he made his way downstairs, he could hear a delicate voice talking. "Thank you, Will." JD momentarily paused. "Will?" he thought, "Oh. Right, that's dad's actual name. Damn, he must really like this lady." As he walked into the kitchen, he spotted a pair of familiar red heels. He looked up to meet the glare of none other then Heather Chandler. "Ah, I believe you know my son, don't you Heather?" Chandler only nodded curtly in response. The adults assumed their conversation. Chandler's mother was in a red cocktail dress with silver and red stud earrings and red stilettoes. Chandler looked similar to her mother. Her dress wasn't as tight and her heels were just the normal ones she wore around school. As JD's father lead Chandler's mother outside, JD went upstairs. Chandler followed. "What the hell do you want? You already torment me at school. I think my house should at least be safe." Chandler rolled her eyes at his little joke. "Oh ha ha very funny. It's not like I chose to come. I came home and mom was getting all dressed up and she told me to get ready so I did. Not my fault." JD scoffed. "I thought you had a father." Chandler looked down. "I did. But he died a few years ago." JD nodded. "My mom killed herself. Watched the whole thing happen. She walked right into that library 5 minutes before dad blew it up." Chandler sat in his desk chair. "So big bad Jason Dean has mommy issues huh?" Chandler saw him crack a small grin before throwing a book at her and saying "And the mythic bitch of high school has daddy issues!" They both laughed. After that, the ice and most of the hatred began to dissolve and they continued to have a conversation till Chandler and her mother left. JD's dad had this look in his eye. It was a look JD had never seen before despite knowing his father for 17 years.
Later that night, he called McNamara and filled her in on the night's events. "I'm telling you, darling! He's never had that look in his eye. Not even when mom was alive!" There was a pause on the line. "Jason, did you ever think that maybe, I dunno, he's falling in love...?" JD took a nervous breath. "H-he can't be...what about mom...?" Heather sighed on the other end. "I know it's hard, Jason. What if I come over tomorrow and we can talk?" JD smiled. "I'd like that a lot. Thanks, sweetheart." "Well then, goodnight. Love you." "Love you too." Heather hung up and JD plugged his phone in. He showered and after he finished, he laid in bed. "He can't love Chandler's mom...I can't be Chandler's step brother..." JD tossed and turned all night, hearing those thoughts in his head...
