The Sunbird and Crow (Heather McNamara x JD)

McNamara raced down the hall to the girl's bathroom where Duke was now crying. McNamara walked in and saw Duke crying in the corner. She silently walked over and hugged the girl. Duke looked up to see her and turned away. "A-are you here just to make me feel worse? Leave me alone." The blonde shook her head and replied, "No. I came here to make sure you were okay. That was really wrong of Heather to tell everyone." Duke only nodded in response before blowing her nose in a tissue. "I'm gonna stay here with you, okay?" Duke nodded once more and wiped her eyes. "Sorry if it seems unfair lately. I could talk to Heather for you. Maybe ask her if you could skip out on a party once or twice", said the blonde. The brunette shook her head and mumbled incoherently before sighing. "It's fine. I'll deal with it. Besides, I think I know why she lets you get away with things now." McNamara raised an eyebrow and gave Duke a puzzled look. Duke continued, "I mean, she and I have hooked up with a lot of guys." She let out a small laugh before saying, "You haven't. Neither has Veronica but Heather is always gonna be hard on her because she isn't a true Heather. But that's besides the point. It's not your first time dating, you both know that." McNamara nodded and shuddered thinking about her ex-boyfriend. "Heather seems different lately, I'm sure you've noticed. She clearly is making sure JD won't hurt you. She's gonna be cautious about this but she obviously wants to make sure you enjoy this. Which is a bit out of character but still." Duke finished and looked back into the mirror. McNamara watched her for a little before re-applying her lip gloss. "By the way, thanks for coming after me. I'm surprised Heather let you." McNamara hesitated before answering, "It's no problem. And she didn't exactly let me. She said if I went after you, I'm not a Heather anymore..." Duke stared at her. "You chose me over being part of the Heathers? You just gave up your popularity to come after me? Even though I could be a real bitch to you sometimes?!" McNamara nodded and smiled before saying, "Yeah. I don't really care though. You're my friend and being unpopular but having friends is much better then being popular and lonely." Duke hugged McNamara before bidding her a goodbye and walking to class. McNamara took one last look in the mirror before walking out of the bathroom and out of the school.



"Heather is gonna kill me." The phrase kept repeating in McNamara's head. McNamara decided to skip her afternoon classes. She figured she could pass off as sick, she did look a little pale in fact. She felt sick. As she walked home, she heard the familiar sound of a motorbike. She turned around to see JD following her. "What's a pretty girl like you doing, roaming the streets?", said JD with his signature smirk. McNamara looked down and mumbled, "I don't feel well." "Well, hop on and I'll give you a ride home." McNamara nodded before climbing onto the motorbike (with the help of JD). She wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in the crook of his neck. Before she knew it, they had arrived at her house. JD parked the bike and helped her off the bike. He followed her into the house, making sure she was safe. McNamara thanked him and walked upstairs to change. As she changed, she heard the front door shut. She figured JD must have left and she rubbed her eyes. As she walked back downstairs, she saw JD sitting on her couch. "I thought you left." "Well, darling, I figured you may want some company." She blushed at the pet name and sat next to him. JD pulled her into his lap and hugged her. McNamara slowly drifted off to sleep.



A/N: And that's this week's chapter! Yikes, this book sucks. I'm going to rename all chapters by number, it's hard to think of specific names without spoiling things. Sorry this week was short, I might update over the weekend. I'm trying to figure out days where I'm free and don't get a large workload. The updates will most likely be at the end of the week but once I figure out a certain day, I will not hesitate to inform you guys. I might update late tomorrow night, idk.
