Heather turned around to see JD grinning at her. "Hey darling. Watcha doing out so late?" Heather stared at her feet and mumbled, "I could ask you the same thing..." He chuckled and sat next to her. "What's wrong?" Heather shook her head and hugged her knees. JD wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her cheek. "I know something's wrong, princess. I know you. Just tell me." She looked up and met his eyes. "I just- Ihadafightwithmymomaboutearlier." JD gave her a puzzled look. "Slow down." She nodded and took a deep breath. "I had a fight with my mom...the school called and told her about me slapping Ram and she got pissed..." JD hugged her tighter and kissed her shoulder. "Continue." Heather mumbled "There's nothing else to the story..." JD sighed. "Darling, I know she slapped you. Your cheek is still red. You don't have to keep that from me. I love you and I want to be there for you." Heather turned to face him. "I love you too, Jason...but...you have your own stuff to worry about...I don't want to add to it..." JD nuzzled his face into her neck. "I love you so much, Heather. Just a few more months and we're both gonna go to college..." It was silent for a few seconds before Heather heard JD mumble something. "What did you say?", she asked. JD closed his eyes. "I said that in college you'll probably break up with me but that's fine I guess...everyone leaves sooner or later." Heather held his hand. "I won't leave you. I promise. After college we could maybe get an apartment or something together. Wouldn't that be nice?" JD nodded and closed his eyes. "Then it'll be us. No one else. I'd have you all to myself." Heather smiled and yawned. They sat there for a while longer before JD walked Heather home.

The next day Heather arrived at school with JD's arm draped around her shoulder. Ram, Kurt, and the rest their posse were eyeing JD with hatred. Duke and Chandler were too deep in their conversation or argument over something stupid like which boy is cuter or what would be the next trend. Veronica was pretending to write in her diary or do homework. In reality, she would discretely eye JD. She normally didn't get crushes and when she did, they didn't last more than two weeks. It had been a month since she developed and crush on JD. She hasn't even made a move. "Every second you waste is another second Mac and JD get closer." She reminded herself that every day. She got up early that morning and made sure to look her very best. She had decided she'd make a move that day.
Veronica pushed her way through the crowds of kids. It was passing period and she was trying to get to the library. In her English class, her teacher gave the students a free day in the library on Friday's to read, do homework, or quietly talk. This was the only class that she didn't have one of the Heathers in. As a bonus, JD and Martha Dunnstock were in her class. Martha was Veronica's best friend before Veronica became a Heather and a downright bitch to Martha. Martha had noticed Veronica had taken a liking to JD and she tried to ignore that fact that Veronica had truly become a Heather. Once Veronica had braved the sea of teens, she entered the library to find many of her classmates chatting. JD was the only one who sat alone to read. Veronica sauntered over to his table and dropped her bag on the chair diagonally from JD. She plopped down in the seat across from him. "Hey JD." He glanced up and went back to his book. "Hey Veronica." Veronica was upset. Had he not noticed how she made an effort to look good for him? "So JD. There's a party this weekend. I was wondering if you'd like to come along with me?" JD shook his head. "Sorry. Parties aren't my thing. Besides I already have plans with Mac." Veronica realized that he'd only be interested in something like a book. She glanced at the cover of the book he was reading. "Moby Dick," she thought, "that's perfect. We had to read that last year." She leaned her arm on the table. "So Moby Dick, huh? It's a good book isn't it?" He looked up. "You've read it?" She nodded. "We all have. Had to read it last year for some book study. What's your favorite part?" The pair continued to discuss the book. Veronica was ecstatic to have finally found something to talk about. But what she didn't know was that Martha had been pretending to examine the books on the nearby shelf. She was actually listening on their conversation. She knew that Veronica was trying to get him to date her. Martha decided she'd keep quiet unless something happened because JD clearly just thought she wanted to talk about a book.
Towards the end of the class period, Martha had gotten comfortable in a beanbag just a few feet from where JD and Veronica were talking. The bell rang and kids shuffled out of the library. Martha sighed and stood up, thinking that maybe she had been wrong about Veronica. As she stood up however, she saw Veronica pull JD aside and smirk. She handed him a slip of paper and said something before kissing him full on the lips and leaving. Martha ducked down and JD scanned the library to make sure no one saw. He left and Martha stood up and gathered her things. She knew what she had to do but she knew it could end many different ways so she spent the rest of her classes figuring out a plan...
