By the end of the week, Santana had long forgotten the rumors about Quinn and Finn. Nobody had even seen them together, and Quinn had never given a straight answer when asked to confirm the gossip.
Unexplainably, this had put Santana's mind at ease.
Brittany at her side, she took the direction of the gym with a newfound enthusiasm. It was Friday, the sun was shining, and the catfight about the leadership of the team had finally died down.
As she neared the entrance of the gym, she spotted an unusually large group of cheerleaders standing in a messy circle, their backs to her.
She made her way through the small crowd, only to discover Finn goofily smiling at Quinn, a bouquet of roses in his hand.
"Quinn Fabray", he asked, "will you be my girlfriend?"
A chorus of "oh" and "oh my god" echoed from the audience. Quinn however seemed ill-at-ease.
You wish, Santana.
Quinn had no reason to be anything but happy.
The green-eyed blonde flashed a perfect smile, and answered a little coldly. "Yes, Finn. I'll be your girlfriend."
Santana pivoted on her heels. She'd heard enough. A few seconds afterwards, the whole group disbanded, leaving the two lovebirds together.
Quinn's smile disappeared so suddenly that even clueless Finn picked up on it.
"Aren't you happy? I thought you would be happy", he asked.
He seemed half-puzzled, half-worried.
Quinn's lips formed a thin smile. "No, of course I am happy. Thank you for the flowers."
Finn didn't push the issue. He already considered himself lucky that Quinn had said yes.
Not that she had been given much of a choice. Peer-pressure was the best way to make basically anyone agree to anything.
None of these thoughts occured to Finn as he nodded contentedly and walked off, trapping Quinn into a cage that she would most likely never escape from.
