Santana remembered waiting for Lucy in the hospital, wondering where she was.

She remembered going back to school, and finding Lucy's desk empty.

She remembered how she'd spent a whole week staring at it. How the teacher had called on her to stay at the end of the class.

Most of all, she remembered bitterly how pathetic she'd felt when the teacher spoke."You know that Lucy left, right?"

She remembered the teacher's pity hitting her like a hammer. Repeatedly.

Afterwards, she spent weeks wondering where Lucy had gone. Checking her house, day after day. The house was still there. Lucy's family was still there. But Lucy was nowhere in sight.

The following year, Santana went back to running.

Quinn called the name of her old friend again.

"Santana. Santana?" The Latina had been zoning out for a few seconds already. This was so out of character for her that Quinn was panicking. "Santana!" she almost yelled.

Santana jumped back a few feet in surprise.

"What the hell, Quinn! Oh- sh- I'm sorry, I zoned out. What do you want?"

"I- I wanted to ask if you were okay. And to apologize for yesterday. You left in a hurry, and I-"

Santana cut her off. She didn't want to think about the day before. Quinn had made it clear she didn't like to get too close.

"I'm fine. Thanks. Don't worry about it."

With that, she turned and started jogging, leaving a very dismayed blonde standing on her own.
