Santana leaned against her locker as her eyes, against her will, stayed glued to the blonde girl who had once been her best friend.
All she could see was her back, and yet, she still found herself entranced. It was unhealthy.
Santana sighed, replaced a strand of hair behind her ear, straightened her back and willed herself to detach her eyes from Quinn.
It was easier than she expected; the hall was bustling with students. Everyone was excited to see their friends again, and the school resonated with laughs and stupid jokes.
Santana smirked as she spotted Rachel - or the hobbit, as she liked to call her - gazing at the stupid quarterback Finn Hudson, with her mouth wide open.
She was openly checking him out.
Finn deserved to know that. Santana mentally prepared a few snapping remarks, so that she could tease Finn properly.
As she made her way towards him, her eyes fell on Quinn again.
The blonde was facing her now, walking down the hall, in her direction, with the grace of a dancer. People seemed to part around her to give way. And like a queen, she went down the path that they made for her, one step after another, oblivious that she had become, in two hours, the center of attention, the center of all these students' world.
Santana would have almost sworn that Quinn was walking towards her. The thought sent a jolt of electricity running through her body.
She still recalled the sound of her voice from the first time they'd met.
"Hi! I'm Lucy."
Santana was alone in the courtyard. It was her first day in the new elementary school, and she didn't have any friends.
But she didn't feel like hanging out with the boys who were watching porn on their spoiled kids smartphone, or with the superficial girls who, in fourth grade, still worried about dressing up their Barbies.
So, to hide her discomfort, she crossed her arms, and her defiant stare discouraged anyone from approaching.
Usually, that was enough to be left alone. Not today, apparently. A bold voice interrupted her train of thoughts.
"Hi! I'm Lucy."
Santana's gaze settled on the person who had disturbed her.
The girl who had mustered the guts to speak to her was a pretty brunette, with fairy skin, high but chubby cheekbones and wonderful green eyes.
These eyes... Santana couldn't help but stare at them for a few seconds, admiring all the shades of green that spiraled in the hypnotizing orbs.
Lucy blushed, but didn't break the eye contact.
An undefinable current of pure energy passed between the two.
Santana snapped out of it. Ordinarily, she would have sent the girl away with a cynical reply, but Lucy's mesmerizing eyes had managed to make her speechless. Her mind went blank.
Therefore, all she managed as an answer was a pathetic :
"Oh! Uh... What?"
Lucy laughed, easing the tension between them. Her laugh was that of an angel. Light, full of joy, happiness and innocence.
Hearing Lucy laugh made Santana's heart soar.
Lucy kindly repeated what she had just said. "I'm Lucy. And you are?"
This time, Santana managed an answer.
"Santana. Santana Lopez."
"Nice to meet you, Santana!"
Then, out of the blue, Lucy added, almost shyly. "I don't have any friends. Do you want to be my friend?"
Santana felt herself nod before she could stop herself. "I would love to."
A genuine smile formed on Lucy's lips, and Santana quietly enjoyed how dimples formed on her cheeks.
The thought made her blush, and she smiled at Lucy in response.
"I love your smile, San."
Santana shivered. But she wasn't cold. She felt a warm feeling spread in her whole body, a feeling that left the tip of her fingers tingling.
And, instinctively, she smiled at Lucy again.
