"Truth or Dare, Quinn?"
"Dare."
"Kiss the hottest person in the room." Against her will, Quinn's eyes drifted to Santana. "L." No. Stop. Stop thinking about her. Now's not the time. You're with someone, remember?
And sure enough, Finn was sitting next to her, smiling anxiously as he waited to see who she would kiss.
Dumbass. she thought. And she kissed him, shyly at first, then fiercely as thoughts of Santana and Brittany filled her mind.
He kissed back with his usual enthusiasm, reminding Quinn who she was with. What she was doing.
She tried breaking the kiss, but Finn was not done, and she felt his left hand roam her body as his right hand pulled her face closer to his.
It wasn't that Quinn couldn't have pulled away. Finn wasn't physically forcing her to do anything. But in his eagerness to keep her close
, she could feel his insecurities. In the frenziness of his kisses, his fear of losing her. Of not being enough. She couldn't reject him. Not like that, in front of everybody. Not when she'd rejected him too much already, so much so that his confidence was crumbling.
Gently, as gently as she knew how, she put her hand on Finn's, discreetly pushing him away as she finally broke the kiss.
He froze, only just feeling Quinn's grip, and he frowned, sad that she'd rejected him again.
It almost seemed like he was going to cry.
"Not here, Finn." Quinn said. Everybody's eyes were on them, and Quinn felt it was her responsibility to heal Finn's bruised ego, her duty to bottle up her feelings and shut up, and let him do his thing.
Suddenly the unfairness of the situation dawned on her.
She was always the one saying no. Always feeling bad for it. Like Finn had a right to her body.
He wasn't pushing her, no. But every opportunity he got, he took, like somehow he'd forgotten that Quinn wasn't ready.
She got up.
I'm not drunk enough for that, she thought. She walked to the kitchen, and there Puck was, fixing himself a drink.
"Want one?" he asked, looking at Quinn as she settled against the wall.
Not really, Quinn thought. "Yes, please," she said.
Puck handed her a glass of what seemed like whisky. The glass was half full, but Quinn drank it in less than a minute, wincing as the cold liquid burnt its way down her esophagus.
"You alright?" Puck asked, his warm brown eyes staring at her questioningly.
Quinn wondered if his concern was genuine.
"Yeah," she shrugged, "why?"
"Nothing. It's just- I have never seen you drink like that."
"Have you ever seen me drink?" Quinn retorted.
Puck smiled. "Good point."
Then, pondering something, he said: "Should we go back, then?"
Quinn was nodding in reluctant agreement when Finn barged into the room. He took in Puck, the empty glass in Quinn's hand, and he frowned, puzzled.
Then, he must have decided that it didn't matter, because he walked to Quinn, wobbly on his feet, and said:
"Quinn, I'm sorry." His puppy dog eyes were begging her for forgiveness, and Quinn almost gave in. Almost.
Again, he was guilt tripping her into forgiving him. Again, she would have to reassure him that no, she wasn't angry. No, it was okay. It was what couples did. Yes, she would have liked a warning, but he was drunk. He had stopped when she asked, so it was alright. Bullshit. Quinn could still feel his sloppy kiss on her lips, his clumsy hands roaming her body-
"I told you I wasn't ready!" she yelled, forgetting Puck was right here. Not caring anymore.
Finn winced, then gripped the worktop for balance. "I'm sorry," he muttered in shame. "I shouldn't have done that." He wobbled dangerously, and Puck stepped in.
"Whoah there, buddy." Puck said, passing his arm around Finn's back for support. "I got you. Let's lie down for a bit, yeah?"
Puck turned his head to look at Quinn as he dragged Finn through the door. "I got him, Quinn", he said.
Relief washed through her. Tonight, she wouldn't be responsible for Finn anymore. It felt like a burden had been lifted from her shoulders.
You're not so bad, Puck, she thought.
