Dots swirled around Amaimon's vision, mixing with the clouds of smoke that expelled from the building he had been blown off from. Blocks of cement laid around him, what had once been a wall now torn to pieces as a gaping hole was left at the side of the hospital room. Ignoring the pain that pierced his side with each cough, Amaimon attempted to steady himself.
"You need to run-"
Emi's words were a scratched record playing through his head, making his heart rate increase until he could feel it beating against his eardrums.
Emi...
Something was extremely wrong. Amaimon's gaze skimmed the wreckage in an attempt to find his brother, who was just beginning to emerge from under the rubble and debris a few feet away.
"Mephisto!" He called out, to which the other gritted his teeth, shooting a look at the hole in the hospital wall before putting a finger to his lips, signaling Amaimon to-
"Be quiet." Came a voice that didn't seem to have a source, it bounced through the air in every direction. Amaimon recognized bits of a familiar tone laced in each word, and he turned toward the hospital hole only to find Emi looking over through it.
Their gazes caught each other, but Amaimon did not recognize the eyes he was looking at.
Her gaze was glazed over a thick shield of ice, sunken into her sockets. The muscles in her face contorted in an angry expression, and Amaimon froze as he realized it was directed at him.
"What's going on?" He furrowed his eyebrows, completely confused at the girl's behavior.
The corners of her lips twitched, as she offered a response.
"This is your end, demon king of earth."
And as soon as the words left her mouth she launched her body forward.
Dumbfounded, Amaimon barely had time to react. In a split second Emi was on him, a massive gush of purple flames exploding against his chest. The force sent him flying back, and Amaimon barely managed to catch his footing before the girl had closed the distance between them once more.
"Emi! What's going-?"
He was silenced by an intense pain to his side, the air leaving his lungs altogether as the momentum forced him to bend forward.
"Is this all you're capable of?" Emi's mouth opened, but the words were certainly not hers. They couldn't be.
"Dissapointing." She seethed, grabbing a fistful of green hair before slamming Amaimon's head against the chunks of cement that littered the floor.
"Emi stop!" The voice of Mephisto reached Amaimon's ringing ears, just before Emi's foot came down to crash against his head, sinking it further into the ground.
Amaimon was at a complete loss. Emi had never attacked him before, and most certainly never wanted him dead. It was as if someone had completely taken over her body.
"Get up!" He heard, just before the weight on his head dissappeared. Forcing his body to cooperate, Amaimon rose his blurry vision to find Mephisto and Emi exchanging attacks.
Mephisto was able to hold his own, but it was obvious that he was quickly losing ground. Emi was too fast, too violent, and the demon king of time was trying, with no luck, get some sort of reaction from her. From the real Emi.
Amaimon, his body still hurting from the effects of carrying Emi's body through the woods as well as Emi's own attacks, tried to wrack his brain for answers. And in his desperate assessment of the situation, something finally clicked.
The black liquid coming from her mouth. It had to be what was making Emi react this way.
"Fuck." He gritted his teeth as he slammed his hand against the ground, which immediately burst open and a wild-looking behemoth rose from the gap.
"Protect me, don't hurt her." He ordered, before taking off toward the fight. Behemoth trampled behind, remaining as close to his master as possible.
Joining his brother's side, Amaimon spoke his thoughts.
"I think the black liquid is making her do this. Please, try not to hurt her." His blue gaze, pleading and desperate, locked with Mephisto's green one.
"She's not the Emi you know." Mephisto warned, fighting off a burst of flames from the girl. His right side was singed with his skin morphing into a sort of purple shade.
Amaimon gritted his teeth.
Emi had to be in there somewhere.
And with that in mind, he charged forward with only one objective in mind; to bring Emi back.
