A gust of dirt flew in our direction, blinding us momentarily. I squinted my eyes and covered my nose and mouth, careful not to breathe it in.As soon as the cloud of dirt dissipated I could clearly make out Amaimon's figure that had landed right in front of us. He sat atop a huge ball-like demon, he was holding a thick chain that was connected to the bridle around the demon's face. My dragon's nose scrunched up in a growl and his teeth bared even more so than they did with Rin.
"It's him," I heard Rin whisper beside me. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ms. Shura's chest glow a light purple as she pulled out a sword from inside her body. Her face was set into a challenging grimace as she took a fighting stance.
"Don't just stand there!" she growled, catching everybody off guard. "I expected you to show up."
Amaimon sat still for a couple of seconds, shooting her an unamused stare before ripping the bridle off the demon.
"Behemoth, go!"
The demon charged at Shura with blinding speed. Infernal sounds came from his mouth as a trail of saliva hovered in the air he cut through.
Shura didn't move from her spot, bringing her fingers to her mouth and whistling. Immediately a huge snake bursted from the campfire and the magic circle started glowing fire red. A huge ball surrounded the circle, the force sent Amaimon flying away and out of sight.
"Is it a barrier?" Bon was the first to break out of the shock that invaded the camp.
"Yeah, it'll protect everything inside it. We're safe for now," Shura explained, resting the tip of her sword on the ground.
"Who was that guy?" Kamiki asked.
"Is this part of the training?" Koneko followed. "Don't you think this is a bit too much?"
"The training has finished. Now we'll prepare ourselves to attack Amaimon," Shura said, her features stern.
"Amaimon?!" Everyone around me except Rin gasped.
"One of the eight demon kings?" Kamiki shook her head in surprise.
"Demon king of earth," I replied, a defeated tone in my voice.
"He's way too strong for you guys to handle alone. You won't even be able to scratch him. That's why I'll pour holy water on you guys for extra protection," Shura said grabbing a big plastic box from the floor.
"Huh? Why-?" Kamiki's complaints were cut off when the water drenched her entirely.
"Is this some kind of joke?" Shima groaned as a gush of water landed on him. She went around pouring holy water on everyone, including me.
Shura stood in front of Rin ready to pour the remaining water over him, but she hesitated at the last minute and threw the water on the ground.
"That was a close one," she whispered loud enough for me to hear.
She then made a cross symbol in the air and recited a short prayer asking for protection.
"Well, that'll keep us safe for a while."
"Hey, why is Rin the only dry one?" Bon protested.
"Oh... He's... He's allergic to holy water," Shura shrugged and turned around.
"What?! Is that even possible-!"
"Hey, where's Yukio?" I cut him off.
"He was supposed to be helping the one who lit the firecracker, but considering you're all here he should've realized it and should be back by now," Shura replied.
