Night time had just arrived when we finally finished our meal. The loud sound of forest animals was soothing in my ears, but Shima didn't quite think the same. He was huddled next to me in a ball, hugging his knees to his chest as he muttered things about insects being the spawn of the devil. Koneko attempted to calm him by patting his back.
The rest of us sane ones were gathered around the campfire to sing our campfire song. Our C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E-S-O-N-G- song. And if you don't think that we can sing it faster then you're wrong. But it'll help if you just sing along.
Joke. I'm a horrible singer.
I also lied about us singing our campfire song...
Anyways, Yukio did gather us around the campfire, but no cheerful tunes were chorused. He just wanted to discuss our training. So we all sat around the blazing flames, waiting for Yukio to start explaining.
"Ok guys. Tonight's training will be-" Yukio was cut off by miss Shura's slurred voice.
"A test of courage!" she exclaimed, wiggling her can of beer up in the air. The light tint on her cheeks gave away that she was a bit past her alcohol limit.
"Shura, please control-"
"She's piss drunk right now, but she told us she's only 18! Isn't she still underage!?" Bon growled.
"18? What are you saying? She's turning twenty si-" this time Yukio was cut short by Shura's beer can crashing into his head. It made a loud thumping noise before falling to the ground and rattling a bit more.
"Would you look at that, my hand slipped..." Shura's slurred.
Everyone watched in silence as Yukio's demeanor changed. He gritted his teeth and glared daggers at the girl on the floor while opening his lips in a mutter.
"Do your damn job," he growled, his eyes widening after a few seconds at the slip in his self control and he sweatdropped.
"Anyways, your job is to find the lanterns placed around the forest and light them up. Whoever manages to bring one all the way to the campsite will be granted permission to go on official missions."
Everyone gasped at hearing those words and we started muttering excitedly amongst ourselves.
"Here's the catch. There's only three lanterns," Yukio finished.
"Also, everyone will carry a bag carrying food, water and other resources like a compass, matches and a flashlight. "
"So, we just have to light the lantern and bring it here? Isn't that too simple?" Rin spoke.
Shura was immediately at his side with her arm around his shoulders, a smirk present on her face.
"We're in a forest. It won't be so easy. "
At Rin's confused stare she rolled her eyes and leaned in closer.
"You can't use your blue flames," she whispered and turned to me with a hard stare. "And you can't use your purple ones either. Don't forget that I'm still an inspector. If someone finds out the powers you guys possess, I'll have to report you, and they might want your head."
With that said she turned around, leaving Rin and I with our once excited faces now morphed into sulking ones.
"Well, she's right I guess," Rin whispered.
"Yeah, but it's not like we've been relying on that for a long time. We can do this," I patted his back.
"Hey, this training is designed for us to fight amongst ourselves, but if we do," Koneko's soft voice was interrupted by Kamiki.
