"Soul resonance!" Maka and Soul powered up, Maka runs towards the evil soul and pushes with all the strength in her leg, she does a front flip and swings her weapon on the evil soul. She lands on both of her feet and pants a little, she watches the evil souls physical form disappear.

A red soul floats at chest height waiting to be eaten. Soul transforms back to his human form and walks up to the red soul, he cleans his thirsty drool with his black and yellow jacket. He puts the whole soul in his mouth and chews slowly savoring the soul. He swallows and sighs in relief of how good it felt as it went down his throat.

"Alright nine more souls to go" Maka said proudly

"Yea crazy how close we are, took us a while. But next time we will know for sure it is a witch and not a cat... or a mouse" Soul grunted

"Yea I didn't think we would mess up twice but here we are, we did it faster than the last two times" Maka chuckled awkwardly

"Yea I guess so" Soul walked behind Maka, they were quiet listening to the crickets by the grass and the chilly wind blowing past them and into their ears.

Maka was tired from the fight they had, as spring approached, the cool wind soothed her heated body and the bright full moon in front of them made her night a little nicer.

Maka stared ahead at the moon and smiled, the moon was a bright white that if there were a blackout the moon was good enough to illuminate their path home. She smiled at the sight of it, she loved the moon so much.

Soul walked next to Maka quietly, he side eyed her and noticed how big her smile was and tried to look into her direction. He looked and smiled a little to himself, he looked at the stars as they blinked like little fairy lights

"The moon is beautiful isn't it?" Soul said

Maka was a little surprised to what Soul had said, it took her a second but she nodded in agreement.

"It's beautiful" Maka felt ridiculous for thinking Soul was telling her he loved her. Little did she know Soul knew what he was saying

What would I have said if he really meant that? Maka thought

"I will report to lord death that we got our 90th kishen soul" Maka took out a small mirror from her pocket, it was cracked, Maka pouted

"Told you I should have held on to it, you must have cracked it when we were fighting" Soul scoffed a little

"I was so careful"

"No you weren't, you got slammed like three times in the fight"

"shut up" Maka went up to a reflective window and huffed her hot breath making it foggy and wrote lord deaths number.

"hi hi! how did your mission go?" Lord death said cheerily as always with a peace sign

"All well Lord death, just nine more souls and a witch soul" Maka said trying to be positive but was rather upset on how long it took them to get this far

"amazing Maka, I know you're upset that it took you two longer than others but mistakes are made for a reason. You have more experience than others"

"I appreciate it lord death" Maka wanted to end the conversation.

She didn't want to feel any worse. Maka had determination to finally turn Soul into a death scythe, she may not have been quick like her mother but she definitely created new techniques and strength to her soul

"We should get going, I'm tired" Soul said as he hooked his arm over Makas shoulder

Maka nodded, she finished up her report ended their call. Maka and Soul stood there for a couple seconds, he didn't let go. Soul begins to walk pulling her with him and the only sounds that came from them were their steps against the pavement.
