Maka had forgotten how bad her anxiety was before she became a miester. She was hoping to never feel it again because Matoi was gone, she had sensory issues when Maka would have anxiety attacks. The only way to get rid of it was having rough texture that she can fidget to.
In the past she often had a small toy to interact with so she wouldn't get overwhelmed, so when her anxiety would creep in she pulls it out and soothed her anxiety.
Maka walked quietly through death city reaching the beach. She took off her shoes and socks and put her feet in the sand, she grabbed handfuls of sand and squeezed tightly, feeling the micro grains of sand printing a small mark at the palms of her hands.
She began to play in the sand and soon enough she built a poorly made sand castle, she took deep breaths and tried to forget that her sibling was back. She took off her sweater and rolled up her sleeves.
Maka moved closer to the shore and looked for sea glass, sea shells and other things to decorate her sand castle with. She wiped the sweat off her forehead and looked up to the sky, the sun shined bright and hot, the clouds were white and cotton looking
She found different rocks and glass she thought were pretty. She smiled to the feeling of cold water on her feet, she moved closer and was up to her knees
The temperature shook her nerves still, Maka felt at peace and refreshed. She looked down at the clear water and seeing her feet wiggle into the sand, she wanted to swim so bad.
Oh fuck it.
She dove into the water and came back up to the surface for air, she gasped and smiled to how much better she felt. She bagan to swim around and float on her back.
She heard the movement of her arms and water, it was quiet. The warmth of the sun hit her face and body which made her smile.
"Have you seen Maka? I've been calling her phone but she won't answer" Soul asked Kid
"I haven't seen her since lunch" Kid said
"I haven't seen her either" Crona said next to Soul "You should ask the professor she assists, maybe she knows"
"you're right"
"She's probably at the beach" Black Star said
"Did she tell you?" Soul asked
"No, I'm just guessin' " His eyes were droopy and voice was low
Matoi was taking a toll on Black Star as well, he seemed a lot less hyper and when he speaks his voice is low, it was a little scary
"Why would she be there?" Soul asked
"I dunno" Black Star said simply and walked away from his friends
Tsubaki stayed behind not following Black Star this time.
"We should leave them alone for a while, Black Star has never been like this before so I know it's serious." Tsubaki told Soul
"I haven't seen Maka like this either. But I'm not leaving her alone, she's my miester" Soul said softly
Soul left after his last class of the day and went off in search of Maka, she had never left school. Much less miss a class, she's too much of a perfectionist for that. He parked his motorcycle and assumed she would be in the nearest beach.
He looked around and saw a couple of people around, he then noticed Makas shoes and sweater by a sand castle and looked out. He saw her body float at the top of the ocean.
He ran towards Makas direction, he dropped his jacket to the sand to not damage his phone and went into the water and reaching Maka's floating body. From the sound of the water crashing Maka opened her eyes and stood up, she saw Soul moving towards her as fast as he could
"Soul what are you doing?" Maka asked
"What am I doing? Look at you! You're the one in the water" Soul said breathing deeply from the short run he did
"Yea but why did you come into the water"
"I thought something happened to you" Soul said
"I can swim you know" Maka said quietly
"That doesn't mean you cant get hurt" Soul said "you weren't answering your phone and I got worried, and Black Star said you might be here so I came and.. here you are"
Soul was half soaked and worried for his partner. He felt more on edge since their last mission
"I'm sorry... I needed to.. run away from everything at the moment" Maka looked down to the water, she swooshed her hand at the surface of the water feeling the water pressure go between her fingers
"Yea but a heads up would be nice." There was a short pause
"I'm not asking you to tell me everything, but I'll be here" Soul put his hand on Maka's head
Maka looked at him, there was no anger or disappointment in his face. She smiled softly and nodded
I'm the worst
You're not Soul responded
Maka and Soul looked as if it were a normal thing to hear each other's thoughts.
"I'm sorry I worried you" Maka said
"It's fine" Soul dropped the rest of his body into the water making him soaking wet along with Maka
"Why did you do that?" Maka laughed
"So you won't feel alone" Soul said
Maka stopped laughing and smiled, she felt so loved by Soul. It was a warm fuzzy feeling that she didn't feel much in her life but enjoyed that her anxiety was gone for the moment.
Soul then splashed water on Maka, interrupting her thinking. She gasped and laughed
"The water feels great" Soul said as he chuckled
Maka then splashed Soul and soon had a water fight. They swam around for a little longer and then got out to go home. Maka grabbed her shoes and sweater with her, they got on the motorcycle wet and stiff and headed home.
Maka held on to Souls body firmly, he was cold as much as she was. They reached home and as Maka went inside her room Soul stopped her
"Do you need help?"
"No I think I'll be fine" she smiled thankfully and went inside her room
She took a little longer than usual in the shower by being careful to not slip like last time. Maka got out the shower and changed
She grabbed her phone and called Black Star
"Hey" Black Star answered
"Hey" Maka said back, they were silent for a while
Their silence spoke more than words, they knew how they felt, they understood each other with a single word
Maka felt herself get anxious again but tried to remain calm.
"You went to the beach?"
"Yea... Soul came"
"yea, he got worried...do you want to meet up today?"
"Um... yea" Maka sighed
"Alright, see you then"
Maka put on her shoes and walked out her room. She grabbed her phone and keys and walked out
Maka reached their meet up spot. Maka quickly texted Soul she was with Black Star so he won't worry she is gone.
"Maka" Black Star said as he walked towards her
Maka wanted to fight the feeling but she really wanted a hug from him. She slowly got close to Black Star and he pulled her into a hug, Maka began to cry. Black Star felt tears at the brim of his eyes but pushed them back, he was comforting her.
She hiccupped and wiped her tears and runny nose as she pulled back from him. Black Star had a sad look on his face, Maka knew he was hurting as well. He didn't let a tear drop down his face.
"I don't know if I can do this now that they are back.."
